Happy 249th Independence Day!
July 4th is also marked by the deaths of three founding fathers and early U.S. presidents: Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and James Monroe.
When Adams died on July 4, 1826, his last words were reported to be, “Thomas Jefferson survives.” Ironically, though Adams didn’t know it, Jefferson had died just hours earlier that same day, the 50th anniversary of American independence.

July 4, 1975: Australian socialite, heiress to the Mark Foys retail fortune, newspaper publisher and activist against urban development, Juanita Nielsen disappears in Sydney. Her body has never been found. It is generally believed that she was killed because of her conservationism, and there have been strong suspicions of involvement of organised crime and corrupt police. In 2021, the reward for information about her disappearance was doubled to $1 million.

To be wild is not to be crazy or psychotic. True wildness is a love of nature, a delight in silence, a voice free to say spontaneous things, and an exuberant curiosity in the face of the unknown.
