June 23, 1980: Nature's fury, the heat wave begins in the south & southeastern US. While the National Centers for Environmental Information list the direct death toll from the 1980 heat wave as 1,260, it also notes that the estimated indirect death toll from heat stress may have been as high as 10,000. The extreme heat lasted till mid Sept in various states.

The deadly heat waves sparked a surge in air conditioning installations. This event ranks among the deadliest natural disasters in U.S. history. The 1980 heat wave resulted in 389 heat-related deaths in Missouri. According to NOAA, over 87% of the deaths occurred during a two-week period, July 8-21, when 339 people died. In St. Louis, more than 150 people died and in Kansas City, 176 deaths were reported.
It became difficult for people to escape the heat. According to the Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Institute (ARI), 43% of American homes were without any kind of air conditioning in 1980. When I moved to Dallas, TX as a teenager, the first summer I thought this must be HELL!

June 23, 1979: Charlie Daniels Band releases "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."
Pioneering businessman Fred Smith passed away yesterday at the age of 80. Smith served two tours of duty on Vietnam as a U.S. Marine officer before founding the global delivery giant FedEx Corp. He said he owed the Marines a debt of gratitude for his business success. Smith was also a member of the spooky Skull and Bones secret society. In 1973, FedEx had $5,000 in the bank and a $24,000 fuel bill. He took $5,000 to Vegas and won $27,000 playing blackjack, buying time to raise more money.

Today, FedEx generates more revenue than casinos on the Vegas strip.
And just like that, this episode of the Middle East show concludes. Thank you for watching our 12-day series. Wolves fed, and all goats counted. Stay tuned for the next installment, after this commercial break...while we rearm Israel for next week's episode.

Just what the hell kind of war are we watching? Feels like a B-grade dystopian sci-fi comedy from the 80s. Yes, hello, this is Iran calling. Attention Qatari's, we are going to launch a few missiles at you in next hour, maybe 2. We're waiting for the children to arrive so they can witness the fireworks. Make Persia Great Again! Allah snackbar!
All the puppets of the Gulf States condemned Iran's symbolic operation on the US base in Qatar harder than Trump. Iran media is claiming this is all fake news. Meanwhile, Netanyahu has yet to comment publicly on a ceasefire deal.
Well, that aged well...

Who knows what these people are saying in private, on both sides, on all sides.
Looks like Iran pulled a Hamas and wanted to get the last word in...

Trump sounds like he's on drugs. A direct impact was reported on a 7-story residential structure in Beersheba. Some Israeli reporters say the ceasefire starts at 11PM EST. Well, it's after 11pm and a third wave of missiles on the way. So who knows.
Meanwhile...

Where is Iran’s uranium? Search continues for 400kg stockpile
A nuclear weapon can technically be made with as little as 20% enriched uranium. The atomic bomb used on Hiroshima had uranium enriched to an average of about 80% due to time constraints. The United States standard for A-bomb-grade uranium is 93.5% and that has to be changed out every 5-7 years due to decay. The higher the enrichment level, the smaller and lighter the nuclear weapon can be, which is important for delivery systems.

Yep, for real. Florida is building a detention facility for illegals nicknamed "Alligator Alcatraz" in the Everglade swamp designed to help the Trump administration's immigration round-up. DHS will help pay for the detention facility with money from FEMA. Wait, I thought FEMA was broke.
Well, come gather around and I'll sing you a song
About a crazy old world that’s coming along
'Til one day some fool made the decision
To turn on the television...
