Iran is a strange place filled with strange people and governed by even more strange people.
There's no legitimate excuse for this. I have to believe that some "Karen" in the government stepped into some dog poo somewhere and decided to go all in on banning pets/dogs. It's an exercise of power for the sake of exercising power. It certainly sends the message that "we are the government and you will obey......or else!".
I guess we can only conclude that a majority of the Iranian people support the whacko's that are the current government so in the final analysis it's on them.
Ultimately of course, we all know that there's only one "final solution" for the troublesome Iran and their bizarre ambitions. It only remains to be seen who delivers that "final solution". When that does happen, dog ownership will be the least of their problems.
