Despite Sen. Joseph McCarthy wild rhetoric, antics, & drinking escapades he is the only person that got red hot close to exposing the Roswell UFO problem/cover-up of which the Army launched a huge smear campaign against him resulting in an early death.

In 1953 Joe McCarthy staffer Joseph Brown "Doc" Matthews Sr. better known as J.B. Matthews (1894–1966) published an anti-communism/anti-college piece in The American Mercury, May 1953, pp. 111-146. Later followed up in 1960 by a piece titled REDS and OUR CHURCHES on communism in churches. Everything old is new again. From 1938 to 1944, Congressman Martin Dies Jr. headed a House Special Committee on Un-American Activities (AKA the "Dies Committee"), on which Matthews served as research director.

Summer movie: Ride the Wild Surf (1964) featuring Susan Hart, Shelley Fabares, and Barbara Eden. Susan retired from acting in the 1960s after she married American International Pictures co-founder James H. Nicholson.


Barbara Eden's navel was ubiquitous throughout this motion picture; especially in the scenes where her primary wardrobe was a two piece bikini. The following year her navel landed in the hit TV series I Dream of Jeannie.


June 9, 1972: Middle-aged salesman, David Mann, was driving on a business trip, when he was involved in a prolonged road rage incident with a truck driver from hell. Date is known thanks to the scorelines mentioned on the radio.


I was 10 or 11 years old when I first seen this movie and was absolutely glued to the TVee. My grandfather who had seen it years earlier was a truck driver (hauling fuel) and so I had to ask if he had ever seen such a demon rogue truck driver chasing a 4-wheeler. He looks at me and says, son, I am that truck driver! Course, grandma was over hearing the conversation and lit into him about telling such road tales. Too late, my mind was already drifting into no man's land wondering who my grandpa really is?!

June 9, 2020: A BBQ took place where friends and family say goodbye and good luck to Luke Graham (Don Cheadle), who was about to command Mars 1, the first manned. The filmmakers created the Martian landscape in a massive sandpit near Vancouver, BC. It was one of the biggest sets ever constructed for a movie - around two million square feet. The crew used over 14,000 gallons of paint to spray the soil "Mars red."

The appearance of the "Face on Mars," as well as the alien hologram, were modeled after the work of the famous Romanian sculptor Constantin Brâncusi (1876-1957), especially his "Sleeping Muse" (1910).


The Sleeping Muse is a bronze sculpture created by Constantin Brâncuși in 1910. It was originally carved from marble using Baroness Renée-Irana Frachon as the model and exhibited in the world-shaking Armory Show of 1913 that brought European Modern art to American shores. Refining the sculpture, Brâncuși cast several of the sculptures in bronze, which are now in museums around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris, and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Christies Auction and the patinated bronze head inlaid with gold leaf created by Constantin Brâncuși in 1913 and last sold at Christie’s in May 2017 for $57.4 million!!!

China Southern Airlines used to operate a fleet of five Airbus A380 "superjumbos". They were the only Chinese airline to operate the A380 and the first to introduce it into their fleet in 2011. They were primarily used on international long-haul routes, including flights to the United States (Los Angeles), Australia (Sydney and Melbourne), and Europe (Amsterdam).

China Southern officially retired its A380 fleet in November 2022, with the last commercial flight occurring on November 5, 2022.

Reasons for retirement: The retirement was largely attributed to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the high operating costs associated with the A380. For Boeing this was a win.

Current status: Most of China Southern's former A380s were sent to the Mojave Desert in California for storage and eventual dismantling. However, one aircraft, B-6140, was later purchased by Global Aviation Group and is being prepared for a potential return to service in 2025 on routes between London and the US.

China Southern will place its faith in its more efficient twinjet widebodies - the Airbus A350, Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
