7 weeks later Robespierre was executed for the execution of more than 17,000 "enemies of the Revolution". Maximilien Robespierre "the Incorruptible" and the deist Cult of the Supreme Being was and is quite the historical controversial character to this day.
However as the great American Author Mark Twain said:

June 8, 1949: Eric Blair, writing under name George Orwell, publishes Nineteen Eighty-Four in the UK. One of Lee Harvey Oswald's favorite books. Orwell’s futuristic novel depicts a totalitarian tyranny ruled by "Big Brother" and supported by a secret police using mass surveillance. More broadly, Orwell shows how facts are manipulated by governments. Can you imagine such a story becoming reality?! Surely can't ever happen here in my lifetime says me back when I read it in the 80s.

Along with X-Ray Specs and Sea-Monkeys, the Polaris Nuclear Sub was a common ad in comic books of the 60s and 70s. Kids who managed to scrape together $6.98 received a stack of cardboard that could be assembled into something resembling a 7 foot submarine. The sub, which would disintegrate upon contact with water, included a rudimentary periscope and rubber bands to launch toy missiles and torpedoes. I wonder how that "10 Day Free Trial" worked out?
