Or....perhaps there has been outbursts of outrage and the media I follow haven't covered them? Several days ago, there was a Times article I can't find but is referenced here: https://freespeechunion.org/police-make-...-messages/
The times article indicates there's something like 30,000 people in jail for speech offenses. Its impossible to verify that, but even if it's only 50% correct, it's an absolute outrage.
I don't live in the UK, and am highly unlikely to ever even visit there, given the political climate, but it is my understanding that it is no longer legal there to express outrage against the machine in the UK. I hear there are approximately 30,000 people cooling their heels in UK hot-boxes for having done so, which has apparently had the desired chilling effect on free speech.
This site is not in the UK, so we have free speech here. We operate under US jurisdiction (First Amendment, in this case), not UK jurisdiction. There have apparently been threats and attempts to bring sites like this under UK jurisdiction, as well as the jurisdiction of other countries, such as New Zealand, but I don't think those efforts have gotten any traction, despite the nasty, strongly-worded letters that have been sent out in efforts to curb free speech world-wide.
The long and the short of it is that strongly worded letters sent from foreign nations attempting to curb fact and / or strongly-worded opinion here will fall upon deaf ears. Well, blind eyes, in the case of letters. I mean, we fought an entire war to establish that our own jurisdiction is the only one that matters here, you know? If foreign nations want to exert censorship control over their own citizenry, their only proper recourse is to establish a Great Firewall to block us within their jurisdiction, same as any other totalitarian state like China.
If that happens, e-mail me. I can help you climb over any Great Firewalls they may establish. I do not believe in shutting thinking and free-flowing information exchange down for people, and it wouldn't be the first time folks in my family have gone up against a tyrannical government seeking to tighten the choke-collars on it's own people.
