June 3, 2022: then SECNAV Carlos Del Toro announced that the name of SSBN 826 would be changed from Columbia to "District of Columbia" the day before her keel laying "to alleviate any name conflicts with USS Columbia (SSN 771) which was due to be decomm'd, but got a life extension. § 10 U.S.C. 8662(a) states that "not more than one active vessel of the Navy may have the same name." The boomer class is still called Columbia-class, so as far as I know, this is the first time in US Navy history that a class has a different name than the lead-boat. Can't wait for the nicknames for the DC boat which is scheduled to enter service in 2031.

IMO, if this were true, the Gov would of removed fluoride from our water decades ago in favor of the medical/dental mafia. The US gov't didn't ban red dye #3 from foods until 35 years after it was barred from cosmetics as potentially cancer causing.
