I never had witnessed an execution before, and did not believe I could be present at this one without turning away my head at the last moment. I only went because I thought I ought to have a lesson, and because I believed that if ever it would be possible to see a man hanged, and derive satisfaction from the spectacle, this was the time. For John Melanie was no common murderer -- else he would have gone free. He was a heartless assassin. A year ago, he secreted himself under the house of a woman of the town who lived alone, and in the dead watches of the night, he entered her room, knocked her senseless with a billet of wood as she slept, and then strangled her with his fingers. He carried off all her money, her watches, and every article of her wearing apparel, and the next day, with quiet effrontery, put some crepe on his arm and walked in her funeral procession.

R.I.P. Ruth Ann Buzzi (July 24, 1936 – May 1, 2025) actress and comedienne.

Buzzi, who was nominated for five Emmys, was best known for the NBC variety sketch comedy “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In,” which ran from 1968 to 1973.  Her TV debut was on “The Garry Moore Show” in 1964. She was also part of the cast of “The Entertainers” in 1965, and appeared on “The Monkees” sitcom in 1967. She made over 200 television appearances during a 45-year career.

Buzzi lived with her husband, actor Kent Perkins, on a 600-acre (240 ha) cattle and horse ranch near Stephenville, Texas. They were avid automobile collectors. Their collection focused on post-war English vehicles, including Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Jaguar, although it also includes several American convertibles and muscle cars.

Buzzi was named in numerous songs, including House of Pain's "I'm A Swing It", The Bled's "Ruth Buzzi Better Watch Her Back", and the Loretta Lynn/Conway Twitty duet "You're the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly".

Buzzi died at her home in her sleep in hospice care in Stephenville, Texas on May 1, 2025 from complications of Alzheimer's disease, at the age of 88.



Her character, frumpy, bitter, hairnet-wearing Gladys Ormphby, was famous for hitting people with her purse.

The CIA doesn't post much on social media platforms and this seems like a classic Chinese tactic from The Art of War: sowing discord. The CIA likely made the ad look crude on purpose - to spark ridicule and go viral via media and social platforms. While mocking the CIA, people start suspecting each other over spies that may not exist.
If only Guohua were here to comment on this stuff.
