Mentally he'll carry those scars for life though. PTSD, low-self esteem, super viligance, distrust in people (especially blacks), he'll retreat inwards, and he'll go through dark days. I wouldn't be surprised if he suicides in the future. 
Remember that 10 year old who was bullied and suicided on his driveway ? 

This kid is only two years older and got ambushed by 15 teens! I would be after blood if this was my son.

some folks got a long memory, maybe when they least expect it they better.
