there's a theory that men used to live much longer (in Genesis lifespans of hundreds of years are recorded) but the Creator shortened the life spans. Genesis 6:3 says "And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years." in Psalms we are told man lives for 'threescore and ten' years.
presumably God shortened our lives to cut down on the continous evil, and the accumulation from a long life.
imagine if Hitler had lived for 100 years. one reason WWII started when it did was, he was impatient, in his fifties, wanting to make things happen. a few more years and he might have had an aircraft carrier, missiles, and even a nuclear bomb. we are all very fortunate that didn't happen.
