February 11, 1945: The Yalta Agreement, designed to plan the post-War era, was signed by the “Big 3” Allied leaders, Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin at a meeting in the Livadia Palace in Yalta, Crimea. They reiterated their demand of "Unconditional Surrender" from Hitler’s Germany. The Yalta Conference has been criticized for setting the stage for the Cold War by allowing Soviet influence in Eastern Europe. Critics argue that Roosevelt and Churchill made too many concessions to Stalin, although supporters contend that the agreement was necessary given the military situation at the time, with the war in Europe still ongoing and the need to maintain the alliance against Nazi Germany.
