January 29, 1933: German Broadcasting Corporation (Reichs-Rundfunk-Gesellschaft-RRG), announced the Nazi Party leader, Adolf Hitler, would be appointed as the German Chancellor on the following day by President Paul von Hindenburg in a national coalition government.


Also on that same day: "So Hitler is to be appointed German Chancellor. He’ll last 6 months," said Ernst Thälmann, the leader of the German Communist Party (KPD) from 1925 to 1933. Within weeks, Thälmann was hauled off to a concentration camp and was executed at Buchenwald concentration camp on Hitler’s order on 18 August 1944.

January 29, 1979: 16-yr old school student Brenda Spencer shot dead 2 adults and wounded 8 children and one cop at a San Diego School. When asked by police why she did it, she replied: “I don’t like Mondays.” Sentenced to life her next opportunity for a parole hearing is this year. This tragedy inspired the UK #1 hit song with that title by The Boomtown Rats.

Spencer, a junior at Patrick Henry High School, was described as a “pretty good shot” by officers on the scene. They quoted her father as saying she had 500 to 600 rounds of ammunition.

Brenda Ann Spencer famously told a reporter her motive: “I just did it for the fun of it. I don’t like Mondays. This livens up the day.” She then added, “I have to go now. I shot a pig (police officer) I think and I want to shoot more. I’m having too much fun (to surrender).”

The Justice Department is moving to drop special counsel Jack Smith's case against Trump allies Walt Nauta and Carlos DeOliveira, the last vestiges of Smith's Trump cases. Alot of names in that court doc. The imminent dismissal of the charges is likely to revive calls from Democrats for the public release of Smith's final report on the classified documents.

Democrats urged AG Garland to drop these charges before Jan. 20 so he could release the Smith's final report. They reasoned that Trump DOJ would drop them anyway. Garland disagreed. Now it's unclear if/when we will ever see the report.
