In August 2001, a seasoned hiker from Kentucky stood at the edge of a pristine lake in the Great Smoky Mountains. The weather was perfect, his permits were in order, and he'd spent months planning this solo adventure. But as he ventured down a remote trail that morning, something felt terribly wrong. The forest had gone completely silent - no birds sang, no animals stirred, like someone had hit a mute button on the entire wilderness. So when he stumbled upon a mysterious black cube that seemed to devour light itself, he knew he'd encountered something that defied explanation.
