Jan 21, 1954: the world's first nuclear-propelled vessel was launched at Electric Boat in Groton, USS Nautilus (SSN-571), christened by Mamie Eisenhower. In the short span of one year, seven months and seven days, the job was done.
Operation Hideout - an experiment to test "how the human factor will limit operation of the world’s first true submersible – the atomic submarine", conducted one year before Nautilus' launch. These 23 volunteers were locked inside USS Haddock (SS-231) for 60 days.
This commemorative program sent by EB to Nautilus' launch guests. PDF Most interesting is who owned this copy, Medical Officer Capt. Oscar Schneider of the Atomic Energy Commission, part of early nuclear power & weapons, including Operation Crossroads.
While the above credentials for Capt. Schneider are verifiable, other (likely made up) claims by his son Philip Schneider are not. Such as his father was a German U-Boat captain that was repatriated into U.S. Naval Intelligence after his capture & part of "The Philadelphia Experiment" and a role in the construction of Deep Underground Military Bases (DUMBs) across the United States. Also, Oscar Schneider is a very common name in Germany. No malice towards Phil but he probably had very little knowledge of his dad's projects (all compartmentalized classified), so an over-active (or disturbed) mind may fill in the blanks, incorrectly.
JFK after inauguration, January 1961:
"Before my term has ended, we shall have to test anew whether a nation organized and governed such as ours can endure. The outcome is by no means certain. The answers are by no means clear."
President Kennedy signed his first Executive Order on January 21, 1961 to expand the program of food distribution to needy families. He was asked about it in his first press conference 4 days later.

FIRE SALE, coming this summer. LOL!
Jan 21, 1991: an F-14 from VF-103 onboard the USS SARATOGA became the only U.S. Navy Tomcat to be lost to hostile fire when it was shot down by an Iraqi missile during Operation Desert Storm. The pilot, Lieutenant Devon Jones, was recovered the following day, but the Radar Intercept Officer (RIO), Lieutenant Lawrence Randolph Slade, was captured and held as a prisoner of war for six weeks until his release on March 3, 1991. This event marked a significant moment as it was the first combat search and rescue mission behind enemy lines since the Vietnam War.
The dramatic story of Lt. Lawrence Slade, a US Navy Tomcat RIO who became POW (Prisoner Of War) during Operation Desert Storm.
SNEAUXMAGEDDON 2025 is underway!
From that historic rare snowfall event on Miami in Jan 19, 1977 to Trump 2025 kicking off another historic snow event continues to unfold along the Gulf Coast this morning & afternoon. Seemingly unreal Blizzard conditions have been reached at the New Orleans Airport (35 mph winds with snow for 3 hours or more reducing visibility to 1/4 mile or less).
*High resolution models continue to pick up on the idea of a narrow zone of 5-7 inch snow totals from SE Louisiana into far southern Georgia. The Alabama Gulf Coast is in this zone.
Pensacola city’s record is 3” from 1895. Other areas in NW Florida are reporting up to 6 inches!!!
Winter Wonderland from Texas to Florida.
While the U.S. is covered by a massive cold blob, notice the massive hot anomaly blob in the Arctic. The poles cool fastest because there is almost no water-vapor gas to restrict cooling. Couple that with "winter" conditions with NO sun - you then have massive cooling. That hot Arctic anomaly still reflects freezing temperatures, but its the huge tropospheric layer that is cooling very fast.
The White House Press Corps Gears Up for Trump 2.0 - She reminds me of a movie character but I just can't put my finger on it. She was an intern at Fox news while going to college and afterward was assistant press secretary under Trump's 33rd White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, who went on to Fox news in 2021.
Trump's loyal wingman since age 17, Dan Scavino being sworn in as deputy chief of staff in the Trump administration.
What's in the RED folder?
Will it come into play now?
World leaders sure seem to be scrambling.
Will we ever know what was really in it? This was 1/6/01.
Wow they seem like they are in extremely good spirits
Then Trump with a serious face holds up the red folder. Fun 'n games but you just never know these days on the world stage.
Coming by Philip Larkin
On longer evenings,
Light, chill and yellow,
Bathes the serene
Foreheads of houses.
A thrush sings,
Laurel-surrounded
In the deep bare garden,
Its fresh-peeled voice
Astonishing the brickwork.
It will be spring soon,
It will be spring soon
And I, whose childhood
Is a forgotten boredom,
Feel like a child
Who comes on a scene
Of adult reconciling,
And can understand nothing
But the unusual laughter,
And starts to be happy.
