Dec 13, 1924: A first (and only) child is born to Marlene Dietrich (27 December 1901 – 6 May 1992), a largely unknown German actress, and director Rudolf Sieber. Maria Elisabeth Riva (née Sieber) became an actress in her own right, earning 2 Emmy nominations in the ‘50s and writing a bestseller about her mother. Mommy dearest was fluent in German, English, and French. Marlene, who was bisexual, enjoyed the thriving gay bars and drag balls of 1920s Berlin.

When Marlene was in her 50s she had a relationship with actor Yul Brynner, which lasted more than a decade. Dietrich's love life continued into her 70s. Her lovers included Errol Flynn, George Bernard Shaw, John F. Kennedy, Joe Kennedy, Michael Todd, Michael Wilding, John Wayne, Kirk Douglas, and Frank Sinatra. Damn, she really got around!


Moved out of Nazi Germany at age 5 and emigrated to Hollywood USA. Growing up on the Paramount lot, she was cast in her first film at age 9, playing the younger version of Catherine the Great in THE SCARLET EMPRESS and had a nonspeaking cameo in the convent school scene (she's seated and sewing) in "The Garden of Allah."


During her childhood, Maria would often join the Kennedy family on vacation along with her mother. Despite the six-year age difference between the two, she became good friends with Rosemary Kennedy, saying of their friendship, "Perhaps being two misfits, we felt comfortable in each other's company".

The docudrama film is a commentary on the psychological effects of the Cold War, the title deriving from the classic nursery rhyme.

Staff and students at a rural school react to a warning of an imminent nuclear attack, not knowing whether it is real or a mistake. The film was inspired by a McCall's magazine story by Lois Dickert (Lois Dickert Armstrong) about an actual incident at a California elementary school during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
