November 13, 1942: "The Fighting Sullivans" - 5 American brothers (Joe, Frank, Albert, Madison, and George Sullivan), died in the aftermath of the sinking of the light cruiser USS Juneau by the Japanese Navy at the Battle of Guadalcanal aka The Battle of Friday the 13th, aka The Night of the Big Guns. It was the largest loss of life by a single American family serving during WWII.
The torpedo damage inflicted the coup de grâce as a massive explosion sent Juneau crashing to the ocean floor in under a minute. Juneau's 100+ survivors (out of a total complement of 697) were left to fend for themselves in the open ocean for eight days before rescue aircraft belatedly arrived. While awaiting rescue, all but ten of Juneau's crew had died from their injuries, the elements, or shark attacks.
The Wreckage was found by Paul Allen's research crew on March 17, 2018 off the coast of the Solomon Islands.
The first ship named for the brothers was the Fletcher-class destroyer USS The Sullivans (DD-537), now a museum ship in Buffalo, New York. The second ship is USS The Sullivans (DDG-68) is an Arleigh Burke-class (Flight I) Aegis guided missile destroyer commissioned in 1997. Current status: Active.

November 13, 1974: 23 yr-old Ronald Joseph DeFeo Jr. killed his mother, father, 2 brothers and 2 sisters in the family home in Amityville, New York. The case was the basis for a series of books and the film The Amityville Horror, which I'm sure you've seen and remakes after. Sentenced to 6 sentences of 25 years to life, DeFoe died in prison on 12 March 2021.

One of the most dangerous trends of our times is making the truth socially unacceptable, or even illegal, with "hate speech" laws. — Thomas Sowell
