July 20, 1956: The annual nationwide civil defense drill known as Operation Alert was held. The last OPAL drill was in 1961. Eisenhower-10 (E-10) Shadow Government bigwig Frank Stanton (March 20, 1908 – December 24, 2006) is cleared for Mount Weather (High Point). Operation Alert 1956. Mr. Stanton was an American broadcasting executive who served as the president of CBS between 1946 and 1971 and then as vice chairman until 1973. He also served as the chairman of the Rand Corporation from 1961 until 1967.



At the conclusion of Operation Alert 1955, it was decided that Operation Alert 1956 should be a three-way test - military, civil defense, and government - including the participation of field and regional organizations. 16-year old Lee Harvey Oswald, a cadet member of Civil Air Patrol in New Orleans, participated in Operation Alert 1955.

The "blonde," as the NY Daily News headline writer put it, was Mary Jo Kopechne (July 26, 1940 – July 18 or 19, 1969) was an American secretary, and one of the campaign workers for U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy's 1968 presidential campaign, a close team known as the "Boiler Room Girls". In 1969, she asphyxiated when a car driven by U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy left a narrow road on Chappaquiddick Island and overturned into Poucha Pond after leaving a party. According to reports, Kennedy left the party at 11:15pm. Kopechne's body and the car were not reported until the next morning, approximately nine to ten hours later.
