July 4, 1986: 21-year-old Lance Cpl. Howard Foote Jr., a Marine aviation mechanic at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro, Calif stole an A-4M Skyhawk, an $18 million military jet, for a 45 minute joyride during which time he performed several impressive aerobatic maneuvers. He had wanted to be a fighter pilot but an injury prevented him from qualifying. He then landed it after making five passes of the runway. His stunt cost him over four months in the brig and an other-than-honorable discharge.
Before entering the Marines in 1984, Foote was a record-holding glider pilot as a teen-ager. His soaring continued in the corps until February, 1986, when he suffered an aerial embolism, a form of the bends, while attempting to set an altitude record.
A Marine that deserves to be remembered.
Foote tried to fly for Israel and Honduras after his discharge. He later qualified as a test pilot in more than 20 different military and civilian aircraft, and became a contractor to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He holds patents in aviation design and engineering technology.
The following video by The History Guy tells Foote’s story.

On a more serious note back 3-4 years ago when all this mocking the president when into high pitch fever (which the whole world sees) is actually being driven by big corporate special interests to convince the public that a president is not required anymore. The president is just a person whereas the Office Of The President is where all the power is held. Something that big corporate techno empire has had their eyes on for a long time. Regardless who gets installed for the next 4-year term will end up being the same BS and mass fighting within the degenerate political class. While the real controllers sit in their ivory towers sippin tea (or Remy Martin Louis XIII Cognac) & mocking the sheep. I dunno, too much going on in the world to pin-point anything solid and you only end up a reductionist missing all the important stuff. And if you're content then why bother at all, just ignore it all. But, some things I would just really like to know.
Hmmmm....
Fitting words for the Weekend...think I already know BIAD's chosen word; actually probably two. LOL.
The adjective "abderian" describes excessive laughter. The word alludes to Democritus, "the laughing philosopher," who was a native of Abdera. He was among the first to develop the atomic theory of the universe. I liked this guy until I found out his nickname came from his hobby of publicly mocking people.
Pre-Socratic philosopher Democritus, known as the Laughing Philosopher (presumably because he laughed at man's foolishness) was from Abdera. He is considered by some to be the father of modern science because he, along with his teacher Leucippus, developed an atomic theory of matter that was, as they say, way ahead of its time.
You have to laugh right. I mean what else can you do...

Putting to rest The Week That Was with some Robert Louis Stevenson...
"No generation learns from the previous one. No individual learns from another. He may receive certain teachings, but he must experience it to make it part of his own consciousness. Therefore to know life we must live all of life and as we grow wiser we live it joyously, we live with intent and purpose.
We ask nothing else. We ask no favors, we beg nothing, but live well at all times, doing the best we know. We know we live in the Law and will be protected by it. There is no injustice. In that realization we have a great spiritual hope. But we have to grow up to it before we realize it."

You want me scared,
You want me weak
You want me brain dead and asleep
You want us trapped while you all laugh behind the scenes
You want us sick
You think we’re dumb
You want us blind and you want us drugged
You want us poor while you get more of everything
But you don’t get to tell me what to think and what to do
No, you don’t get to tell me what is true
‘Cause you’re just liars, cheats, and crooks
You change the rules and you burn the books
And so I don’t believe a single word you say...

Jabberwocky By Lewis Carroll
’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!”
He took his vorpal sword in hand;
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
“And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”
He chortled in his joy.
’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
