First, I don't trust anything the FDA has to say, even if I might otherwise agree with it. The mere fact that the FDA said it makes it immediately suspect. How can you trust a government agency that cannot tell the difference between a battery and a cigarette? Yes, the FDA has declared a number of batteries, including the 18650 batteries I use to power my flashlights and gun lights, to be "tobacco".
It doesn't get any dumber than that. A blind person can tell the difference, yet the FDA in it's entirety, cannot.
"Follow the science" my ass. If the government can't follow science, why should I?
Regarding food "additives", about a week ago, Grace got deathly ill. Among her symptoms were intense vomiting and a hives breakout all over her body. All of the symptoms in their entirety pointed a big fat finger at a food allergy, but we couldn't figure out what food that might be... until we realized she had eaten a particular kind of tortilla chip that I had not eaten. We believe that to be the culprit, but the weird thing is she's eaten them before with no ill effect, and so we've concluded they must have changed the formula for them, probably adding some new ingredient or additive that they didn't include before.
So, unless you know what every ingredient on the label is, food labels are useless. I've never heard of "tara flour" before, and have no damned idea what it is or why I would or wouldn't eat it. All the chemicals listed at the bottom of the food label - what the hell are those, really? Unless you know, how are you supposed to guard against ingestion of harmful substances, label or no?
