Federal prosecutors in New York said they charged a Japanese Yakuza leader with conspiring to traffic nuclear materials from Burma to other countries
Now, beyond the alleged fact that we're concerned with trafficking weapons grade nuclear fuels, there's something that really caught my eye in this story, and it probably did yours too, but just in case it didn't here it is:
Quote:Federal prosecutors in New York on Wednesday said they charged a Japanese Yakuza leader with conspiring to traffic nuclear materials from Burma to other countries in the belief that they would be used by Iran to make a nuclear weapon.
The accused gangster, Takeshi Ebisawa, “and his confederates showed samples of nuclear materials in Thailand” to an undercover agent from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration who was posing as a narcotics and weapons trafficker with access to an Iranian general, prosecutors said.
“With the assistance of Thai authorities, the nuclear samples were seized and subsequently transferred to the custody of U.S. law enforcement,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan said in a statement announcing a superseding indictment against Ebisawa and another man.
“A U.S. nuclear forensic laboratory later analyzed the samples and confirmed that the samples contain uranium and weapons-grade plutonium,” the statement said. (Italicized emphasis added)
Now, as usual, our method here is to assume that the allegations are true, and that the goobernment is telling the truth. But before we get to that, assume for the moment that it isn't. That would not be any news at all, since by now it should be abundantly clear that it will tell the truth if doing so is convenient to whatever agenda it is promoting at the moment, and will lie if it is not, or, like the ecclesial institution it seems to me mimicking, will make up things to support the narrative or goal it's seeking, in this case, a supreme, universal, immediate jurisdiction and infallibility. "we need more power and you need less freedoms to keep you secure from the threat of (cue drum roll and sinister, dark music) "Rogue nukes". So could the whole story be a component of the slow and steady drip of fabricated "crises" designed to achieve that goal?
Of course it could.
But in this instance, I think not. so herewith we pursue the other alternative for the sake of our high octane speculation of the day and assume the story is true. If so, then the first and most obvious question that springs to mind is: "Where in the name of sense did a leader of the Japanese Yakuza - essentially, Japan's mafia, and like all mafias, with considerable interfaces with, influence in, and influence from, the Japanese government - get weapons grade plutonium? And more importantly, how in the name of sense was it transported from wherever he got it, to Thailand, because it had to have been transported there because Thailand is not on the nuclear watch list as producing plutonium. In fact, I am not aware that Thailand has even closed the nuclear fuel cycle. The countries that are known to have done so are: The USA, Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Israel, France, Britain, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, the Netherlands, Sweden, and yes, of course, Japan. Access to weapons grade plutonium implies access to one of those nation's enrichment programs, or high enough access to steal the fuel, or...
...(take a pull on that adult beverage now, if you haven't already)...
... that one or more of those nations allowed the fuel to be stolen for purposes of allowing rogue groups - like the Yakuza - access to nuclear weapons.
I've said on many occasions and in many contexts that nations like Japan (or for that matter, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Argentina and so on) are probably "turn-key" nuclear powers, i.e., they do not have nuclear (or in Japan's and Germany's case, thermonuclear) weapons, but they are capable of producing all the components to them, and stockpiling the parts for them for "quick assembly". If one has paid close attention to the pronouncements of the Japanese government over the years in response to North Korea firing rockets towards it, the responses, in a few cases, have been little more than warnings that North Korea has no idea how dangerous such a policy is and that Japan can defend it itself... massively. The rumors of a secret nuclear weapons program peaked again after the Fukushima disaster, and frankly, I think those rumors contain a (nuclear) core -- not to coin a pun - of truth. On the other side of the world, there are those claims - which I've also mentioned on this website - that much of France's nuclear deterrent is actually built by German defense firms, including the stuff that actually does the 200 kiloton exploding.
Why is that disturbing? I suspect you know as well as I: in a world where Swampington D.C. seems literally to have lost what little mind and sense it had and seems hell bent on having a war with Russia, a nuclear false flag through a rogue group would be a convenient spark. Rogue groups are, by their nature, nuts, and can be counted upon to do things like assassinating Tsars and presidents and bombing trade centers with airplanes and other things. So you don't even have to get them to do it. They will do so entirely on their own. With a little proper handling, you might be able to point them in the right direction, but ultimately it's not necessary. Just light the fuse, and when the explosion occurs, blame it on the always-byzantine-never-to-be-trusted-and-entirely-evil-Russians-and-their-super-genius-criminal-mastermind-Vlad-the-Bad, and off see go...
