Now, as to who the nut cases setting those fires are is something I never was sure about but suspected terrorists of some kind, domestic or otherwise. The why has as many reasons as arsonists but I figured terrorism, negligence, or firebugs were most of it. Hawaii was different and seemed like a foreign weapon strike, nothing like the three reasons why I have above.
Playing with fire is legit an issue. Most of us grow out of it, but how many of these stories have we heard now?

Wiki even has a section on the "phenomenon"
Firefighter Arson
Quote:Firefighter arson is a persistent phenomenon involving a very small minority of firefighters who are also active arsonists.[1] Fire-fighting organizations are aware of this problem. Some of the offenders seem to be motivated by boredom, or by the prospect of receiving attention for responding to the fires they have set.[2]
It has been reported that roughly 100 U.S. firefighters are convicted of arson each year.[3][4]
Either way, it's crazy. I should've never given up the matches when I was young. I could be a ... hot .. ticket viral creator by now!
