While that statement is true, it does not account for the fact that history didn't begin in 638 (when the Arabs consolidated their conquest of Jerusalem from the Byzantines) either.
Fact is, that area has undergone conquest and recapture for 4,000 years, and has changed ownership many, many times. Out of all that time, it was only under the Arab boot-heel for about 1300 or so years... and "possession is 9/10ths of the law" - the Muslims are just butt-hurt that they no longer possess it, so it is no longer theirs.
It appear they have roped a lot of non-thinking, low-information Leftists into their little fantasy of ownership as well.
