Wolves are not what folks think they are. Sure, they CAN get mean if they have to, but they generally leave folks a wide berth, and expect the same from people. I used to raise wolf-German Shepherd hybrids. Had to have a wildlife license because the percentage of wolf in them was too high. The state would allow up to 10% wolf to be considered a "wolf dog" or just "dog", but mine were about 50% wolf, so I had to have a license.
I'm surprised Riggs bonded with a new human. Usually, if they're over a year old they won't re-bond to anyone. That's why wolves ejected from a pack become "lone wolves" - because they'll never bond again with another pack. So the ones I raised had to be bonded with their new people before they got to be a yer old, and preferably trained by that time, too. We trained them to work as police dogs, and there was a pretty high demand for them from local PD's.
