Sin City happenings:

The highly anticipated Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, set in the heart of the city in Nevada, had to cancel its first practice run last night due to extensive damage to Carlos Sainz’s $15 million Formula 1 car. The damage occurred when the car sucked up a drain cover from the race track, revealing significant floor damage. Other drivers also faced issues with drain covers. The $70 million track is undergoing repairs, with F1 crews actively working on securing manholes. Officials announced that the second practice session is scheduled and expected to start when repairs are done.



$15 million dollar car, $500 deductible from Geico. All the money on marketing and limited inspection of track.

The Lost Missile (1958) - low-budget film that relied heavily on stock footage of military forces and civil defense exercises. The film refers to Havenbrook Atomic Laboratory in suburban New York City. The actual Brookhaven National Laboratory is in Brookhaven, Long Island, N.Y.

Plot: The appearance of an unknown "missile-like" object in nearby space leads a European nation to fire a rocket at it. Though the rocket intercepts the unidentified object, the explosion only diverts the missile into an orbit around the Earth. Racing five miles above the earth, its passage causes widespread devastation of the land below.


Original director William Berke died of a sudden heart attack on the first day of shooting. His son, Lester Wm. Berke, took over. Guess I should not watch it alone! The concept of the atomic-powered cruise missile doomsday weapon was similar to that of the U.S. Air Force's Supersonic Low Altitude Missile, which was under development at the time.

Passed by the British Board of Film Censors with an "A" certificate on 6 October 1958. Enjoyed a two week run in London's West End, opening at the London Pavilion on 21 November 1958 and sharing the bill with Timbuktu (1958). Both films were generally released at normal prices on 14 December 1958.

The NPO plan was classified Top Secret, codeword Pegasus. It was also referred to as Project 908 (aka as "Nine Naught Eight"). The only oversight was by a Project Pegasus committee chaired by then-Vice President George Herbert Walker Bush. The committee included The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (or his deputy), FBI Director William H. Webster, Attorney General Edwin Meese III and other top cabinet officials. The action officer for the project was Marine Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, who then worked at the National Security Council under retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel Robert McFarlane.
