In 1956, there was a TV show called "The World We Want" in which high school students from all over the world were invited to the United States to have candid discussions on social issues and current events.
One student by the name of Raul Contreras from the Philippines sat down with three other students from Indonesia (Ratnati Iskandar Dinata), Japan (Yoriko Konishi), and the UK (Judith Reader). They were asked to share their own prejudices.
Contreras began by facing Konishi and saying, "Being brutally frank, I am prejudiced against Japanese. Not to the extent that I hate them, but I got this as a result of World War II."
Despite his anger, Contreras also took the time to express empathy towards the Japanese civilians of post-war Japan and their struggles to help pay war reparations. "Most of them even have to suffer the cold in the classrooms because they can't afford to heat the schools," he said.
The conversation amongst the students soon turned to that of skin color and segregation in American society. The below clip shows Contreras highlighting the hypocrisy in America's pledge of allegiance, which states "liberty and justice for all." Raul went on to become a crisis communication expert.

On the eve of Hamas’s October 7 attack, Gazans had very little confidence in their Hamas-led government, according to a newly released survey:

National Endowment for Democracy is a CIA front created by Ronald Reagan.
This had been increasing for some time: there were demonstrations in September against Hamas failure to provide basic services. Given Hamas track record of creating external crises when under pressure at home, it should perhaps have been another warning indicator for Israel.
In January, U.S. Army Centcom carried out what they described as "the largest U.S.-Israel partnered exercise in history" — a massive show of force officials claimed. Apparently, the Hamas (& Iran) were not impressed. 3 min clip:

Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) will almost certainly owe a greater political debt and obligation to an ex-President than any other Speaker in history.
U.S. House Speaker Johnson first remarks: "The first bill that I'm going to bring to this floor will be in support of our dear friend Israel." And... ![[Image: 8AqRbes.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/8AqRbes.jpg)
Quote:Arab Barometer’s survey of the West Bank and Gaza, conducted in partnership with the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research and with the support of the National Endowment for Democracy, provides a snapshot of the views of ordinary citizens on the eve of the latest conflict. The longest-running and most comprehensive public opinion project in the region, Arab Barometer has run eight waves of surveys covering 16 countries in the Middle East and North Africa since 2006. All surveys are designed to be nationally representative, most of them (including the latest survey in the West Bank and Gaza) are conducted in face-to-face interviews in the respondents’ places of residence, and the collected data is made publicly available.
...
The results of the Arab Barometer survey paint a bleak picture of Gaza in the days before the October 7 attacks. The Hamas government, unable to address citizens’ vital concerns, had lost the public’s confidence. Few Gazans supported Hamas’s goal of destroying the state of Israel, which left Gaza’s leaders and its population divided over the future direction of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The vast majority of Gazans strongly favored a peaceful solution, and they yearned for leaders who could both deliver such a solution and improve Gazans’ overall quality of life. So far, however, the policies of their own government and of the Israeli government have prevented progress on both fronts.
...
Our research has shown that Israeli crackdowns in Gaza most often lead to increasing support and sympathy for Hamas among ordinary Gazans.
...
Finally, Israel and the United States must recognize that the Palestinian people are essential partners in finding a lasting political settlement, not an obstacle in the way of that worthy goal. If the two countries seek only military solutions, they will likely drive Gazans into the arms of Hamas, guaranteeing renewed violence in the years ahead.
What Palestinians Really Think of Hamas
