Today we remember the 220 Marines, 18 Sailors, and 3 US Soldiers who died 40 years ago in the bombing of the Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. It was the largest loss of life for Marines in a single day since Iwo Jima in 1945. A French Army barracks in Lebanon was also hit that same morning, killing 58 troops.

This one is longer than the one on the Internet Archive (330 pages v. 126p), which appears to have come from JFK researcher and Coup D'Etat in America author A. J. Weberman.
WerBell often comes up in JFK assassination lore because of his connections to Bay of Pigs veterans (Bernardo de Torres), the Teamsters (John Nardi), and his arms trafficking (Military Armament Corporation). In the early 1960s, WerBell planned a coup of Haiti, known as Project Nassau, which was to be funded by CBS News so they could film the action.

The CIA and FBI were both watching and tracking him during his plan to overthrow the Haitian government, Project Nassau. No agency seemed interested in stopping him.

It was eventually revealed that WerBell's Project Nassau was being funded by CBS News, which intended to film the invasion!

Some things never change...During the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, the tensest-of-tense Cold War standoffs, there was not social media to spark panic like today – but daily news reports & radio certainly did the trick. The day after JFK's famous speech certainly made a mark.
