Meet Nebuchadnezzar

My heart just leaped in my chest and I found myself laughing to the sound of my Mother laughing. I walked out to the porch to find my Mother watching Nebuchadnezzar zipping around like a tiny black tornado, and playing "Tag You Are It", with my Mom. That little Bad Baby has a way of sneaking his way deep into your heart.

I had no clue what I was getting myself into when I picked that little skinny, sunburned, starving, ball of rusty black fur up from the side of the road back on July 3rd, 2023.

My mother will be ninety years old next year. She was diagnosed with cancer three months ago. They are trying to work up a treatment plan that is not too aggressive and will not be taxing for her. I love her doctor's approach. He says that he does not want to take away one second of comfort from her, but he was not going to pretend he knew God's plans either. He said just because she was going on 90, he was not going to treat her like her time is up, for all he knows she may be destined to live longer than him.

I love the sound of her laughter. I hope that I will hear it for a long time to come. I appreciate the joy Nebuchadnezzar seems to give her, and the sounds of laughter he brings forth in our home.

So Bad Baby is truly an angel in disguise in my book.

Saturday night...

Nebuchadnezzar is 6.5 pounds. I gave him his second bath yesterday. He did great. He doesn't like the water in his face, but loves it on his belly.

He is a weird black. Sylvester's black is a sharper black. Nebuchadnezzar is a shadowy black. He is much harder to see and the only way you can make out the features of his face is when his big green eyes are open. When he closes his eyes it is hard to make out any facial features.

He stills loves to cuddle. He has free access to the dry food, but he eats his wet food and then makes the rounds to Sylvester's food and to Enoch's food. Sylvester only wants the gravy and leaves the rest for Nebuchadnezzar. Enoch walks away from his wet food too and lets Nebuchadnezzar to eat the leftovers.

Both Sylvester and Enoch lets him get away with anything. They are gentle when they play with him. I think they are very much aware that they are nearly 5 times bigger than him.

I think I have figured out why Nebuchadnezzar is so hard to see.

Nebuchadnezzar is so damn smart.

I have a few pants that have string inside in the back. They are basically to stop them from falling off the hanger.

Nebuchadnezzar is able to recognize which pants have the strings. If I have on the pants with strings he sits behind me, reaches in and pulls out the strings and plays with them.

I never get used to sitting, minding my own business, and suddenly being goosed my his tiny paw.

We are going through some troubling times right now in my house. Expenses that are more than I wish to take on. Mother's report came back saying that the cancer has metastasized and she will require radiation and chemo. We start with the radiation oncologist on Tuesday.

Nebuchadnezzar with his playful antics and his need for lots of cuddling and love, makes for tons of laughter in my house. Even the other animals enjoy his presence and antics. Enoch is hilarious when he gives into Nebuchadnezzar, pretending that Nebuchadnezzar has beaten him, when Nebuchadnezzar couldn't even pick up Enoch's paw on his own.

He is indeed a blessing right when we needed him.

Did I tell you that he came into our lives, less than an hour after my Mother was diagnosed with cancer.
I don't think we saved him. I think he saved us.

something told me when i read the post about her laughing watching him play that he was there to give your family some joy and relief form the hardships you guys were facing during your mothers fight against cancer.

i'm curious to see if he starts staying closer to her now that she has to go through these treatments because he knows she needs comfort. i'm betting he will.


 best wishes for your mom, sister, brother and you and will add you to my prayers. they have become infrequent lately due to my forgetting because being all worn out and getting old, but i do still pray just at odd times now. sometimes i wake up in the middle of the night and feel the need to.

I too often find myself feeling the need to pray.



I was praying recently and the Holy Spirit spoke to me, saying, When you see God working, know that Satan is lurking.



I know that good is a magnet for things that may not be good, so when I see the bad, I hunt down the good that it is trying to hide from me.



Mom is in great spirits. Nebuchadnezzar loves sitting in Mother's chair with her. It is beside the window and has a large butterfly bush that is the meeting place for so much wildlife, it is like watching nature TV. They spend hours there together.



Nebuchadnezzar was in heaven yesterday. Mom and I were sitting together. He was so comfortable when he was able to cuddle up to both of us at the same time.

My Brother came to visit and he too has fallen head over heels in love with Nebuchadnezzar. Nebuchadnezzar throws his little black kitten spell on you and you are toast.

Mom keeps saying, "I can't put my finger on it, but there is something different and special about Nebuchadnezzar:.

I am starting to believe she is right.

Nebuchadnezzar is getting some meat on his poor bones. He is now a whole whopping eight pounds.

He still has a little pea head. He is getting longer and taller, but he still is tiny compared to Sylvester and Enoch. He is also still fearless. He chases Sylvester and Enoch around the house at warp speed. He stands at the door and has to double smack at each of the Huskies when they come in or go out the door. They usually just ignore him. He may be getting bigger but he is "Bad Baby."

I still often hear laughter echoing through the house, and Mom, frequently asking him, "Where did you come from?"

We may never know where he came from, but I am so very happy that he chose us.

I think we have past the last hurdle and the pack has finished the initiation process for Nebuchadnezzar.

Nebuchadnezzar had been fine with all the members of the pack, but he was still very skittish around Bellah. 

I found them drinking water from the water bowl side by side, so I think the initiation is complete.

Sylvester and Enoch get put through their paces when Nebuchadnezzar is in play mode which is about 20 hours a day. 

 Nebuchadnezzar attacks the Huskies when they come in or out of the door. This just makes him look funny, because they just lick him, making him all wet and funny looking. Then I am stuck with the job of cleaning and drying him off.

Never a dull moment with 4 Huskies and three Huskicats.

I tripped up on this article just a few minutes ago.

Okay. So maybe Bad Baby's original owner saw this video.

Bad Baby has been with us for two months, the Vet says he believes that Bad Baby is fully grown. He weighs 8 lbs and he does not think he is going to get much bigger, but that is normal for Bombay Cats.

Talk about opposites. Two Maine Coon mixes, and a Bombay mix.

No wonder he is fearless and thinks he is King Of Everything.

The more I learn about the Bombay Cat, the more I am convinced Nebuchadnezzar is a Bombay. Not just the small size, his pug face, his coloring, and demeanor.  His personality is completely off. Even people that don't like cats love Nebuchadnezzar. Everyone that meets him says that he is not like any other cat they have ever known.

He really is not cat like. He is super smart. Mother says he is needy, because he has to be with you all the time and wants to be held or in your lap. He wants to be touching you all the time.

If he is not lying on one of us, he is lying on Enoch.

Sylvester does not mind playing every now and then, but he is not up for the lying on him part.

Oh, and I found out that the American Bombay is disqualified from showing if it has green eyes. But the British Bombay has green eyes.

Who would have think it.

The main difference between the American Bombay and the British Bombay is eye color. American cats have gold, orange or copper-colored eyes, while British cats can have golden or green eyes.

My sister came to visit me several weeks ago. I have animals, but my sister is not an animal person. She does not like pets and always said she would never have a pet. 

My sister who does not like pets just told me that Nebuchadnezzar will always have a home.

She said that she just saw a video about Bad Baby, and now she understands why Bad Baby is the way he is and it all makes sense.

She said if anything happens to Mom or me that she would take Bad Baby. I was speechless when she said Bad Baby has a home in her house.

 Nebuchadnezzar can even work his charm long distance.
