I am surprised the Russians have not started doing the same thing to their troops as they tend to kill anyone who displeases their commander. 

So you are a soldier of the PLA in China and there is a self destruct charge attached to your worn combat gear. You can activate self destruction manually to prevent from being captured or your benevolent commander can command "self destruct" at a distance.. Well I would think that would cut down on the AWOL list !!

I translate that into English as "In war with China, take no prisoners. Just kill every living thing you encounter. Don't bother with prisoners, because they'll just blow up their own soldiers in your midst so they can take a few of you out along with them."

And that one commenter makes an interesting point - what's to keep the US from cracking the system and just blowing up entire battalions with the push of a single button?
