Russian propagandist Mardan stated that Azerbaijan never existed.

The same kind of rhetoric that Russia uses regarding Ukraine. "I went and looked into it — where is this history of 'Great Azerbaijan' that was supposedly interrupted by the Russian Empire’s military intervention? I found nothing. There was no Azerbaijan. And I couldn’t even find an ethnic group called Azerbaijanis. In fact — with all due respect — it seems that the very ethnic identity we now know as 'Azerbaijanis' was, apparently, also invented by the Soviet authorities."
