Social contagions can cause genuine illness, and TikTok may be a superspreader. The phenomenon known as "mass psychogenic illness" (MPI) – in which a group of people starts feeling sick with similar symptoms in the absence of a clear physical reason – is nothing new, and I'm sure nothing new to ya'll. A niece of mine has developed this condition, though not nearly as bad as portrayed in various news videos.

A mysterious outbreak of tic disorders among young people leads Dr Robert Bartholomew, a sociologist at the University of Auckland to question whether social media is making us sick.



Big pharma will have a pill or a vax for that issue.

I am so happy that my daughter, born in 1974, didn't have social media growing up. I'm afraid if I was a parent today, I would be considered a hated monster for disallowing it. Heck, I'd probably move to some anti-tech luddite commune or something to avoid the terrible influence this has on kids. Her and I have recently discussed this and she is glad she grew up in the pre-internet days too.

While typing this, I saw a Steam notification that my gamer grandson (26) was online. Being a nerd, even he avoided social media until he was 21 which was fine by me and he only did it to hang with his nerd gamer buddies.

It's too late now to put the genie back in the bottle but I wish before this whole thing took off, folks would have realized what a monster this would become and been a bit more cautious.
