Some Cold Medicines May Be Pulled From Shelves

Here we are right before cold and flu season and the FDA has done a study and found that the active ingredient in some cold medications, Phenylephrine, does not work. 

A decongestant used by millions of Americans looking for relief from a stuffy nose is likely no better than a dummy pill, say government experts who reviewed the latest research on the long-questioned drug ingredient.

They are saying these medicines may be pulled from the shelves. There are several people, that I know, who say these do work for them. I’ve not had any luck with them, when I’m congested I go to the pharmacy and get the kind with pseudoephedrine.

It may be nothing, but the timing of this has me wondering. Why now. According to this article they met back in 2007 and agreed this ingredient didn’t work, so why didn’t they pull them then? 

 The same researchers also challenged the drug's effectiveness in 2007, but the FDA allowed the products to remain on the market pending additional research.

I’m thinking about reading up more on herbal cold remedies because it may not be long before that’s what we have to depend on.

You have to get the semi illegal rationed stuff behind the counter if you want something that works.

Buy too much and the cops will raid you though.

Yes. Makes me feel like a criminal everytime I buy them.

Phenylephrine works ok but best in a nasal spray.

Phenylephrine was originally "marketed" in pill form en masse to "not work well" on purpose in order to get people to buy the better Pseudoephedrine AND SHOW AN I.D. 

What their point is now who knows
