I filed a FOIA request to the Puzzle Palace boys. See you in about 20 years.
Came across this 2013 blog post... Quote:The story of how Ricky McCormick was found dead with two (apparently enciphered) notes in his pocket hit the news a while back, but I hesitated to write it up as a cipher mystery at the time because I didn’t think the media coverage was even remotely reliable. But revisiting the whole affair recently, I found a simply splendid online article courtesy of the River Front Times called “Code Dead” (by Christopher Tritto), which turned my opinion of the whole case right round. Link striked out, I found the correct URL: River Front Times called “Code Dead” The second link is to a Vimeo vid from 2012 that I could not find. If you're really into cypher sleuthing here's two other vids: Ricky McCormick /// The McCormick Code /// Part 1 (podcast format for bed time stories) Part 2 And another: BrainScratch: Ricky McCormick's Coded Letters I didn't realize he has his own foundation: https://mrballen.foundation/

Victorian-era historians saw their job as weaving narratives around Events In History for the moral edification and correct instruction of Society In General, and even many moderns would find it journalistically tempting to take McCormick’s life of denial and ignominious death as launching pads for some glib commentary on a whole set of social macro-epidemics – guns, drugs, poverty, social inequality, education, dyslexia, whatevuh... I think this comment sums it all up and the code may be nothing more than facile column-filling material for a insincere trade to glean readership.

I have an idea! Let's take every so-called "psychic" with their own books, television shows or tours and lock them all in a room with it and not let them out until they solve it. If they can't solve it they are no longer allowed to reap financial gain from "psychic" activities and banned from using the title "psychic" for the rest of their lives!
As an American it's your responsibility to have your own strategic duck stockpile. You can't expect the government to do it for you.

Either the notes did not belong to McCormick or it was his own attempt at writing something that only he would know what it is, because McCormick could barely read or write.
Some of it looks a bit repetitious with no immediately noticeable pattern, especially with the large numbers of "E"s. Almost a sort of personal short hand used by an illiterate person???? |
