Interesting set of circumstances. Sort of a three step head-scratcher.
Step 1: Positive CPI data was released yesterday at 08:30. At 08:29 there was a major spike in trading activity. Normally, if positive data was released, the spike would occur sometime "after" the announcement. Not before. Unless someone is leaking information ahead of time. Major verboten. Of course the White House claims there is nothing to see here.
Step 2: The Fed released the news they would be raising rates by 50 points (never mind the new CPI data) around 14:00 yesterday. Bad news.
Step 3: Shortly after that, the market takes a dive. This is to be expected with such news.
It would be interesting if members of Congress' (and other high ranking administration members) portfolios were available to the public. Might we see some amazing financial prognostication reflected in the intervening few hours of yesterday?
You pay these Goobers peanuts (by DC standards) and they leave office millionaires in a couple of years. An amazing coincidence it happens to all of them the same way.
