Doom, Gloom, Bad News, Disaster & Outrage – A Rant - Freija - 07-08-2023

Please keep in mind this is just a rant and I was in a very bitchy mood while writing it. I don't expect this to go over well but there are things I need to get off my chest.

Dear fellow citizens of The Nation,

This is my observation but why do most of you focus on or only make inflammatory posts with doom, gloom, bad news, disaster and outrage? It seems you thrive on it and probably giggle with glee every time you parrot news from your bias confirming websites or favorite political talking head pundit that supports your world view and post it here 30 seconds later. The apparent smugness of thinking you are enlightened or somehow smarter than the masses of sheep people because you think you have alternate or allegedly hidden or suppressed ideas is really not a good look and unbelievably lacking in self-awareness. You are being played as hard as anybody is.

The end of the world, the downfall of society, he/she said this or that, libs, Biden, WEF, Bill Gates, CBDCs, vaccines, Muslims, the decay of morality, LGBTx people and so on and on and on are 90% of what gets posted here. Looking at all this from the outside, it seems you must be unhappy or being unhappy, mad or pissed off is what makes you happy? Maybe by only posting negative things and doom porn makes you feel better that you’re encouraging others to share your negative thoughts and ideas so they can be as miserable as you are?

Maybe you feel it is your civic duty as a keyboard warrior to only post the worst or the most stupid thing you can find or maybe you just want your outrage at changes in the world and society you are powerless to do anything about to be shared by others so you don’t feel so alone and insignificant? Maybe it’s a self-aggrandizing need for cred and clout or maybe it’s just plain old narcissism thinking if you dominate the discussions, then you must be top dog or something and everyone will bow to your greatness? Maybe it’s for your own personal gratification, to satiate dysfunctional psychological drives or to plaster your pet topic with no regard for providing meaningful content.

At any rate, this focus on everything wrong in the world will be the downfall of this site for those not in lockstep with the prevailing mindset and it will end up yet another partisan echo chamber of back patting circle jerking but if this is what you want and where things are headed, then count me out which I’m sure some are patiently waiting to happen so they don’t have to listen to opinions different from their own which I generally keep to myself. My belief is that a small forum like this one that averages only between 25 and 30 members visiting per day has the ability of being more of a community and more of a family but to me it seems it is becoming more and more like a cult

So, just a suggestion but can we all calm the hell down a little and try to not be a one trick pony by constantly rehashing alarmist rightwing “news”, ridiculous half-baked conspiracy theories and the worst possible dystopian outcomes imaginable without some degree of balance or vetting before trying to win the popularity contest?

If I were to suddenly start posting leftwing, liberal, progressive or a rash of pro LBGT stuff, I’m sure you wouldn’t like it very much either so please take a moment to reflect on how using RN as your own personal digital billboard for political agendas with no regard for how your constant obsession impacts the rest of the community or at least me and the other two or three people that aren’t hardcore rightwing sycophants.

Making Rogue Nation great doesn’t mean turning it into ATS.

RE: Doom, Gloom, Bad News, Disaster & Outrage – A Rant - Michigan Swamp Buck - 07-08-2023

You are totally wrong about how happy the doomsayers are when they report these things. No one is smiling and jumping up and down with glee while shouting, "The sky is falling!" into an end-of-the-world echo chamber. It is frustration, fear, and anger that fuels these topics.

I can agree there is a lot of doom and gloom here and on other forums, but it isn't all about that, even if some thread is, some are looking at the silver lining or the half-full cup.

The attitude of those who disagree with the doom porn plays into the responses as well. They will troll bait and agitate with political and social BS just to fire up the paranoids who are hanging by a thread waiting for the final straw to break the camel's back.

I thought I'd add that it helps tremendously to ignore the threads that are irritating you and it is better to spend time on chat boards that involve your hobbies and past times. I have been spending time talking about beer brewing and hops growing lately and my yard/garden this year is the best its ever been because I've been getting away from the computer and going outside.

Quote:Doom And Gloom - Rolling Stones

Verse 1
Well had a dream last night that I was piloting a plane.
All the passengers were drunk and insane.
Crash landed in the Louisiana swamp, shot up a horde of zombies,
but I come out on top.
What's it all about? Guess it just reflects my mood.
Sitting in the dirt, feeling kind of hurt.

Chorus
Well, all I hear is doom and gloom, and all is darkness in my room.
Through the light, your face I see.
Baby take a chance. Baby, won't you dance with me?

Verse 2
We lost all that treasure in overseas war.
Just goes to show you don't get what you pay for.
Bowing to the rich and you worry about the poor.
Put my feet up on the couch and lock all the doors.
Hear a funky noise, that's the tightening of the screws.
Feeling kind of hurt, sitting in the dirt.

Chorus
All I hear is doom and gloom, but when those drums go boom, boom boom.
And through the night, your face I see.
Baby take a chance. Baby won't you dance with me?
Yeah. Baby won't you dance with me? Ah yeah

etc.

RE: Doom, Gloom, Bad News, Disaster & Outrage – A Rant - NightskyeB4Dawn - 07-09-2023

I think we all need a break away from the internet on occasions. The internet is full of emotionally triggering data. Just like commercials are designed to work on our subconscious, most of what is on the internet does the same. The intentional content, and our responses to the triggering information, pretty much controls what we think and believe. It is how it is designed.

I don't always agree with the information shared on the internet, but I try to pick my battles. Confirmation bias is a given. I think it is normal for folk to want to believe what they believe is true. I am sure it is pleasing when we come across information that supports those beliefs. Just as it may be a be disconcerting to come across information that may place some doubt on what we believe as true, and causes some anger when you believe that the content is a lie, especially if we think the lies are deliberate and manipulating, or a tool for recruitment. But the only thing we can do is to post our own responses to the content.

Will it make a difference? Most likely not. But you can hope that you may be able to save one starfish.

I get your point so not going to knock you for it. I'm more of a observer and record a digital scrapbook for my own dark comedy history. I'll admit I'm somewhat addicted and get my own dopamine hits from it, but also real history I believe is true. We all know pretty much everything in corporate media is a cesspool of lies, regurgitated crap, and repackaged in an endless feedback loop...which is ultra easy to get hooked into its web. Hopefully, not all my threads are doom & gloom.

So your answer to keyboard warriors is to keyboard harder.....

I mean, sure, I'm just here to bust your nuts and I skimmed it, but the irony is obvious. I'd think.

Are you sure it isn’t paranoia and hysteria? Clearly, some here can’t wait to post negative or controversial things and do so with great relish. If it is as you say frustration, fear and anger that fuels these topics, then I feel sorry for people so concerned with what goes on in the world outside of their bubble that makes them feel this way.

Maybe it’s because I am older and have learned the key to my own happiness is to not be concerned with things that don’t concern me or that I am incapable of changing and know no matter how dire things become, life will go on. As I’ve seen it with my own eyes, the only constant in life is that things change and will continue to change and those that are resistant or inflexible will be the ones filled with frustration and fear. Life does go on and torturing one’s self with things beyond their control or influence just doesn’t seem like a happy way to be.

As far as avoiding threads and not being baited into a hasty response, I’m trying hard and doing pretty well with that for the most part even sometimes biting my tongue when every bone in my body wants to say something and you may notice I frequently post about, movies and TV, my own engaging and fulfilling hobby projects and I semi-regularly create art for the banner thread and mostly when I do feel motivated to get involved it is because some people seem to have a hard on for things that do affect me and people like me and that’s usually where I draw the line. When I don’t and let things slide, I feel it is better to let threads not get my attention or response hoping people will lose interest and they will quickly die.

I guess my whole point is here is it’s a drag to come here every day and see post after post of negativity or outrage about the latest thing usually from the same people when maybe happy news or a personal story not part of an agenda might be nice once and a while.

Nice hops by the way. Impressive and thanks for sharing!

Today I cut and laid out material for the cabinet doors I’m adding to my rolling tool cart. Sanding, assembling and painting follow over the next day or two then getting them mounted and it will be on to the next thing. Not shown in the picture because they're just sitting on top without being fastened yet but my mitered coners of the cedar decorative borders came our perfect and I was pleased with myself. I would get more done but I'm only good for 3 or 4 hours at a time because it has been 110 to 115 for the last week and it's pretty toasty outside.

Wood-working, I loved working in HS wood shop, I even helped at a custom furniture place for a while. Nice, and a worthy skill for when the shit finally hits the fan and the doom and gloom crowd finally get what they want. It looks like you probably have a nice shop set up from what little I can see.

My corn has some ears already and the tomatoes are just starting to appear. I better get busy and learn how to do some canning this season. I've never done that, just freezing, drying and a little pickling. It's past time learning that skill me thinks.

PS: I agree that paranoia and hysteria play into this as well.

Have a great day my friend and keep on keeping on, don't let clouds get in your way . . .

Quote:“Both Sides Now” by Joni Mitchell

Rows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere, I've looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun they rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done, but clouds got in my way

Chorus
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's cloud's illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels the dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real, I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show, you leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care don't let them know, don't give yourself away

Chorus
I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud, to say,  I love you  right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds, I've looked at life that way
But now old friends are acting strange they shake their heads, they say I've changed
But something's lost but something's gained in living every day

Chorus
I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all

Well Freija , life is going down to toilet with just too many people thise very moment .. that`s the reality. So i really personnally appreciate all post, conversations , rants , videos that try to dig in to the " why" and discuss the problems .

If you didn`t notice...the covid-1984 injections have killed millions, harmed even more .

As the number of transgenders go up i expect also more deaths, because it look`s they are not all that happy and try commit suicide . So the " life goes on " ....yes with some, but not with all .

Transgenders nearly eight times likelier to commit suicide – Denmark study

There are many other other " problems" also ...

World has got mental illness so to speak,  not all, not everyone....gladly there are still many old school people .

Good rant!

Personal Disclosure: Dear fellow citizens of The Nation, ...

Don't stop what you are doing ok.

I love this echo chamber, cult, family and what it stands for and what it does!

I dislike censorship and self censoring to please others is death.

I am a Rogue armchair general and I compete in close combat, keyboard to keyboard, everyday all over the webs, taking scalps and spreading truths.

Having said that, however, one can limit what doesn't bring one joy by focusing ones efforts where one does find joy.

Rogue Nation is huge and has many many forums and I suggest you pick your battles and the forums you like the most to hang out in and post in ok.

Stay strong ... be a rogue and buck the system eh.

Is there more to this than that? Just waiting on a war!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. That's me in the back rank of that group shot of the 114th Keyboard Kommando Battalion. I still have my issue keyboard. It used to hang on the wall over the fireplace mantle, but now it sits collecting dust out in the building next to a box of Pet Rocks ™ and an old medal from the government of Kuwait nestled in a little blue box.

I don't think that posting negative or concerning things is necessarily a bad thing, to keep folks abreast of situations, but there is no damned doubt at all that too often, the "spin" applied to the raw story is pretty cringe. Just tell me what is going on, don't try to tell me how to think about it - I can figure out my feels all by myself, like any 4 year old can do.

When I read those spin-fests, sometimes I reply with some counter-spin, and sometimes I just walk outside and look around, and breathe a sigh of relief that I can't see ANY of it going on within 70 miles of me. Other times, I CAN see it going on nearby, and just shake my head and think "well that one needs a house dropped on him!" Most of the time, it's the former - there ain't any of it going on for at least 70 miles in any direction of here. That makes me wonder just how prevalent it really is, and why the push to spin it up.

Then I spend a little time trying to weed the garden... and plot and plan on how to drop that house.

After shitting the bed in another thread, Freija wisely decides to take her ball and go home indefinitely sparing you all from further disruptions.

Thanks for the comments. In a good state of mind and in a happy place but with great dismay, I have decided to take an indefinite break and focus on the things that bring me true happiness and harmony.

Best wishes to you all.

Please do not reply.

Another nail with a beaten head! Exactly, emotionally-stimulating information is a business formula that
is centuries old and no different from the scary stories one's elders used to tell around a campfire or a
travelling troubadour engaging villagers with exciting yarns in pursuit of payment.

If one accepts that 'news stories' are provided in entertainment form and understand that tomorrow,
other information will arise to often conflict with what has been reported before, one may see how
the recipe these outlets adhere to. 'Project Mockingbird' wasn't created to just corral people into a
way of thinking, it uses a distraction-technique because of an average human's attention-span
being so limited.

Gordi often mentions the quote: "Oh look, a squirrel!" and he's correct. Convincing a public to look
in the direction one desires assures attention and hopefully, that attention is connected to the business
that generated the captivating storyline.

This isn't to say there aren't elements of truth in a report, it's just that if delivered in a factual structure,
it is believed any 'add-ons' like a funded agenda or a favoured narrative to enhance a particular mainstream
media's position in the marketplace, could be ineffective and that centuries-old control may slip -not only
from that particular media-out, but possibly into the hands of a rival company.

Look at it another way. Ninurta switches on the TV and discovers the world is rolling along happily with
folks around the globe singing a favourite tune from a 70's Coca-Cola commercial. What is he going to do?
He'll feel good, he feels that he and his kin are safe... but what is terrifying for these media businesses, is
that he may no longer need to concern himself with keeping up with the latest information.

That 'Off'-button on any communication device is one thing that brings night sweats to employees and
CEOs of media companies and partly due to the advent of social-media, 'character'-agencies have sprung
up in many western countries to enhance the delivery of today's 'news'. Infotainment is a big money-maker
and along with its cousin -'Yellow Journalism', is now the favoured manner in many major mediums and
a friend of the political world.

Yes it's propaganda, yes it's inflated stories designed to evoke emotions to make the viewer/reader/listener
to vacillate in their conclusions of obtained information and yes, it is morally erroneous for someone who
deems them self to be honourable in the their profession to perform.

But it makes money and just like that long-ago travelling minstrel intriguing villagers with lurid tales that will
return to their thoughts at bedtime and scream to be enhanced at the next gossip-session in the marketplace,
it guarantees such duplicitous word-smithing is vital to control the hordes who daily feed on this kind of fodder.

Now... did I ever tell you about the man with hair teeth? Stay with us after these important announcements.
