RSS News Feed Services - Michigan Swamp Buck - 07-03-2023

I was ranting about how forums and social media sites are going downhill and how hard it was to find ones that have the information and subject matter I'm looking for. I mentioned that some kind of a news feed service is what I'm really looking for, so I searched around and I am trying out Feedly.

It's a website you have to join and then you choose the websites you want to get news articles from. I'm pretty sure it can be customized to the point where you can get specific about the content of the articles.

So far I have news feeds from websites like Newsmax, OANN, Al Jazeera, and some others to test it and I'm liking it. I have it on list setting and it has a forum feel to it. I have yet to do much with it, but it is delivering all kinds of articles that would make great threads here or on TOS.

I'm sure that this is the way to go rather than using forums and social media as a faux news feed.

If anyone has advice or websites for news feeds, please chime in.

You can save articles on Feedly or send them to a cloud service like DropBox (the one I use). I'm having trouble adding to the feed files once I've created and populated them, I need to play more with this to get it where I want it.

ETA: I figured out how to add to the feed files, it's not that easy to figure out at first, the online review I read said it was a little harder to use than the others they reviewed. Also, when you click on a news title, it shows you a few paragraphs and gives a link. This is much like a thread posted in a forum like TOS, but without a member's comments or additional links.

Since I am not logged into any feeds, I get sent whatever is trending, or what isn't.

I get some weird crap in my feed, and I like it that way.

I get to see stuff I would never see if I was locked in a box with a label on it.

Concerning Feedly, with the free account I was able to create three folders and put as many feeds as I wanted in them. I named them, "Alternative News" for conservative sources and feeds from other countries, "Main Stream News" for the propaganda mill, and "Regional News" for news from my state and the three largest cities I am nearest to (Chicago, Detroit, and Grand Rapids).

I have picked a filter to get anything I haven't read yet, but you can filter to the most recent or oldest reports. You can list all feeds or just from individual files or sources.

It works pretty well as a free service, if I was really serious, I'd get a paid service. This is a great tool if you're a writer or researcher, I should have done this years ago.

Some websites have no RSS news feeds and others are restricted to mostly membership.

For example, I like Zero Hedge, but they don't have a feed or perhaps they require a membership. I included the Associated Press, however, they toss you a few bones unless you are a member. I found most AP stories on local or regional news feeds for free.

I'll be posting more as I figure this out better.

You can't run a search on Feedly's free service, that sucks. However, you can show all feed titles in the listing view mode and use the browser "find" feature to search the titles on the page.

Perhaps there is a better RSS News Feed service I can find.

Wow, I just discovered that I can get news feeds from my favorite forums like ATS, TPH, and DDZ, however, rogue-nation doesn't seem to have a news feed. I suggest that the rogues need that and that someone needs to get on this issue.

I am really liking this new superpower!  I AM INFO-MAN! Boo Hah, Hah, Hah, Hah, Haaaaahhh!

Something I have been finding interesting is comparing conservative reports with liberal ones, national reports with local ones, and reports for the U.S. compared with other countries, esp the ones that don't like us.

Here's a no frills, plain vanilla news feed for breaking 1stHeadlines (No RSS, but is searchable)
