Ever Heard of Tom MacDonald? - Chiefsmom - 03-14-2023
So, I never had, until this fall. I went on a road trip with a friend for a day, and she asked if I had ever heard of him.
She was surprised when I said no.
Because she says I am a conspiracy theorist. LOL. (she's known this forever)
So anyway, she starts playing his songs.
They are almost all about conspiracy theories.
And he caught a lot of BS from the media for it.
And while I am not a huge fan of rap, I liked it, reminded me of Eminem.
But it turns out, this fellow, is doing it all on his own. With a lot of help from his girlfriend.
He will not sign with a Record Label.
He doesn't seem to be afraid to talk about anything, including his troubles.
He recently gain some mainstream popularity with his song "Ghost" which was written for his girlfriend. It reached number 1 on the billboard pop chart. It's ok. Not really my cup of tea.

I just think it is nice, that he is doing so well, on his own. I hope more artists follow in his footsteps.

I like the song Ghost but @"Ninurta" dedicated it to me so it's a bit more than just a song now.
I like Tom and his music and I hate rap, lol.. but I follow Mr. McDonald. And now all these months after you posted the thread we see others are following in his shoes and likewise being successful at it.
The newest country artist Oliver Anthony here in southwest Virginia has followed in Toms footsteps and has become the first artist in history to make #1 on the billboard without a label....
Looks like everyone who wants to be free to create independently is going to start doing this... it works, and likely works better because you don't have all the middle men taking a cut.

Agreed, I like what he's doing, but GOD, rap is my least favorite music. My musical taste is all over the board, from heavy metal to orchestral, but rap is like nails on a chalkboard to me.
