An interesting article. It sounds a lot like China is expanding the strategy of their "belts and roads initiative" for taking over small countries into other areas of operations. The worst part of it is that Russia appears to be actually asking for  a Chinese takeover, just like lots of smaller nations have done under the guise of Chinese offers of "help" for improvements that suddenly turn sour and end in Chinese takeover of parts or most of their territory, ceded as "collateral for the loans".

They tried that in the US as well - Smithfield pork products, for example, is now owned by the Chinese. Then they artarted guying agricultural farmland and just land in general, especially near military bases. Hell, they even bought, in it's entirety, one of the college campuses where I used to go to school, not far from here - Virginia Intermont was it's name. Now things are going sour. Virginia, among others, has banned China from buying any further properties in Virginia. In the matter of Virginia Intermont, they own the county near half a million dollars in back taxes, with no signs they ever intend to pay. Not long ago, the entire campus burned to the ground. How fortuitous.

Nations, the US included, need to wise the hell up and outright ban Chinese purchases or "financial help" in their countries...

... if they don't, China WILL eventually own the entire world,default by default, by hook r by crook.

If they themselves don't collapse first.

When China bought Virginia Intermont, it was no longer a school. It had already closed it's doors, and as just empty buildings. The Chinese intended to turn it into some sort of "cultural center" or "Chinese-American friendship center" or some such foolishness, aimed at influencing public opinion as well, but in a different way from "education" or "re-education". The idea never got off the ground, because as it turns out, hillbillies are not all that easy for foreigners to influence in their own favor. Hillbillies are naturally suspicious of both foreigners and government.

It's not that there is no cure, it's that vast swaths of the world do not WANT to be cured, especially when someone dangles money in front of their eyes. Most people will sell their very souls for riches, even if those riches never really materialize - more like they will sell their souls for a mere promise  of riches. The Chinese are leveraging that "love of money is the root of all evil" against the rest of the world... even if they don't really have the money to cover the empty promises. Their goal is to get the contracts signed, and once that is done, insure that the debtors cannot repay the loans and foreclose on the collaterals promised. Works like a charm against most folks.

That is how China has bought their influence in India, Sri Lanka, Africa, South America, and even in the US back yard - the Caribbean and Gulf of America regions. There is massive Chinese influence in the Caribbean and Gulf of America, which I personally believe at least part of the US operations in those areas is aimed to counter - not just Venezuela
