In 1989, at the Tienanmen Square protests, the entire world got to see the brutality of the CCP. That garnered them the disapproval and condemnation of almost every other nation on Earth.
The CCP lost face due to their mishandling of that crackdown on protesters.
The CCP has come a long way. Now they have the technology to quietly disappear millions without accruing public opprobrium of other nations... and we all know how the CCP tries to put out an image as "good guys".
So a couple months ago, the world saw millions protesting the harsh covid restrictions in China. Then we saw the CCP appear to "lift" the restrictions in answer to that reasonable citizen request. rather than crack down on them... as all good governments are supposed to do.
