LOS ANGELES (AP) — June Lockhart, who became a mother figure for a generation of television viewers whether at home in “Lassie” or up in the stratosphere in “Lost In Space,” has died. She was 100.
Lockhart died Thursday of natural causes at her home in Santa Monica, family spokesman Lyle Gregory, a friend of 40 years, said Saturday.
“She was very happy up until the very end, reading the New York Times and LA Times everyday,” he said. “It was very important to her to stay focused on the news of the day.”

I liked her acting. I grew up watching shows she was in. She had a long acting career. I wonder if she was stuck in a nursing home in the end for very long, or if her relatives and friends watched over her?

The band Hour Glass visits the set of Lost In Space in early 1968 for a surprise cast party organized by June Lockhart. The band features two brothers named Duane and Greg...future members of the Allman Brothers Band.

hate to hear she's gone, but I reckon 100 years is a good long life. She, and her daughter Anne, are two of my favorite actresses.
I was struck by the "about the author" section at the bottom of the obituary. It states:
Quote:Bob Thomas, a longtime Associated Press journalist who died in 2014, was the principal writer of this obituary.
Wait - WHAT? A man who died 11 years ago is STILL writing for AP? Now folks, THAT'S dedication! Seems sort of fitting that he's writing obituaries... I wonder if he does it on the graveyard shift?

Lassie or Lost in Space, she was a better TV mom than most of the rest of that era, or after, for that matter. I guess she left peacefully, with family, and fully aware up to the end. That seems like a great way to go, and I'm glad she made the hundred-year mark.
