Sorry but I really do think this story deserves it's own stand alone thread.

There were many, many, things which exposed MK-UTRA. Many. It's just that they were too fantastical to believe, much like Area 51, which remained hidden under a cloak of conspiracy until the reality was exposed in the 90's.
And, the conspiracies served as a VERY convenient cover for the real story because the general poupulous was far more apt (at the time) to believe a conspiracy than the truth.
They've tried for 100 years to obscure the truth, but the reality is Gottlieb should have 'swung' (short rope, lower ground). Regardless of how left-leaning Wikipedia tries to spin it today, Sidney Gottlieb was the pioneer of the effort, and the Dr. Mengele of the group...(even though he is no longer mentioned in the Wiki article, go figure).

...(insert "republicans", "conservatives", "Trump", "Israelis", "big business", etc)...made it WAY worse!"

AND...just considering how he is obscured today, this should tell you this program is not completely dead. They still believe there are ways to control people with drugs. And, now that micro-dose 'psychedelics' in small volumes are being prescribed, well, the "sky" is the limit!!

P.S. - Personal note - I am not against this type of treatment, but I am against its widespread use until it is better understood.
