17 guns that will not last for 1500 rounds - 727Sky - 04-25-2025

Quote:Some guns just aren’t built to last—and after digging into reviews, owner complaints, and firsthand feedback, these 17 models prove it. Whether it’s the Taurus G3C’s fragile frame, the Hi-Point JCP’s deforming slide, or the Llama Max-1’s constant jamming, these firearms start breaking down fast—often before hitting 1,500 rounds. From weak springs and cracked slides to misaligned cylinders and worn-out triggers, the list includes compact pistols, budget revolvers, and even a few once-promising designs like the Kahr PM9 and Beretta Nano. If long-term reliability matters to you, these are the models you might want to think twice about.

I'll bet my Colt 1908 Automatic Pocket Hammerless .380, which was made in 1922, isn't on that list.

Kind of surprised to see a couple pistols on that list.  The Kahr especially.  Most of the Kahr's I've seen are pretty rock solid, but I haven't handled one in a few years so maybe they've changed.  Other than that, there were the usual suspects I expected to see.  Some of them warranted, and some not so much.

One pistol which always seems to make these kinds of lists is Hi-Point.  Hi-Point pistols from a quality, fit and ergonomics standpoint are complete garbage.  I would never knowingly purchase one.  However, un-reliability is not one of their characteristics.  They may be ugly, and so inaccurate you've probably got a better chance of hitting something by throwing the pistol at it rather than shooting it, but unreliable is not one of their traits.  Those pistols will eat about anything you feed them, and I've never witnessed a FTF with one.  Demo Ranch has a torture test video they did with one, and they even shot it (in the slide) with another pistol and it would STILL fire!  They threw it in water, mud and every other thing you can think of and the thing would still fire.  And this is pretty consistent with what I've observed also.  The widow lady down the road wanted some instruction with her "new" pistol.  She showed up with a HP pistol.  My gawd, this thing weighed about 27 lbs, had about an 80 lb trigger pull and was ugly beyond description, but it'd still fire.  It was hideous, but it would shoot.

One I was surprised not to see on the list is the new Colt Python.  Probably one of the finest wheel guns ever made, and Colt turned around and totally screwed the pooch with this "new & improved" version.  It's a mess, and it belongs on this list (sadly).  This fact, and others, makes me question the veracity of this list.

Do you shoot skeet?  Because I'm thinking your user name hints at that.

Trap, yes...extensively.  Even thought about going pro many years ago.  Don't shoot too much skeet though.  Different sport, with a completely different skill set.  Trap is a skill sport.  Skeet is a muscle-memory sport.

I like skeet, and I've shot it a fair bit, but I like trap better.  Two different shotguns too.  Trap guns are very long, often 30" or longer.  Skeet guns are the exact opposite, very short, often 24" or less.

BTW - How did you know what "FCD" stands for???

Your three letters seemed familiar.  I used to be on another site that was quite like this one and it kind of went by three letters.  My user name there, abbreviated to three letters, was TCB.  But it didn't stand for Takin' Care Of Business.  It's just nice to recognize users that I respected from other places.
