WW2 - 727Sky - 10-29-2024

Dad said when an SS officer was captured they shot him on the spot.

How about 560 prison guards executed in one day ! War is hell and may your good fortune prevent you from ever having to try and survive in a war zone. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/QFmy7FaIRyk?feature=share

RE: WW2 - F2d5thCav - 10-29-2024

German military "tradition" bit them in the ass when they were on the losing end of the stick in that war.

Back to the Prussian days, the Germans pushed a belief among their soldiers that it was to best to make war as awful as possible to terrorize the enemy into quickly capitulating.  That worked in some cases, but in many cases, it only made the enemy's resistance that much more bitter.

In World War II, the SS went whole hog with things like shooting prisoners, burning down entire towns, etc.  All that bought them a reputation that had lethal consequences when the SS themselves became prisoners.  And the SS understood that; that is why their "elite" panzer troops made tracks to the west as quickly as possible in 1945-- because they didn't want to face the wrath of Soviets bent upon revenge.

The entirety of the German military in that war was a case of "live by the gun, die by the gun".  Personally, I have no sympathy for people like the concentration camp guards.

Cheers--

It's true the Germans feared what Soviets might do to them, believed the West would be more lenient. Stalin himself noted this in a March 1945 speech:

"But we must bear in mind that our allies will try to save the Germans and come to an arrangement with them. We will be merciless towards the Germans but our allies will treat them with kid gloves."

However, it's untrue Soviets were hellbent on revenge; an initial wave of bandits sought vengeance, but the subsequent waves were more forgiving.
Russian soldiers adopted orphaned German children, took German woman as wives to protect them from bandits. The Poles and Czech treated Germans more harshly, but the Russians intervened. Just look up Evelyne Tannehill's memoir. She does admit that the Soviet soldiers committed crimes, in great detail.

Stalin, siding with his soldiers, admitted that Red Army wasn't ideal, having enlisted former criminals, but he also pointed out how criminals were given a second chance
to redeem themselves, returning from the battlefield as heroes. Some officers treated
former criminals like human beings, earning their respect and loyalty.

Soviet doctors even treated wounded German soldiers! Even Ehrenburg, who had demonized Nazis with his propaganda, had to assure Germans at a hospital he meant them no harm:
“In early 1945 I was in a German city that had been captured the previous day. I was asked to go to the German hospital and explain that no one will harm the medics or patients." Some Soviet officers treated criminals like human beings, inspiring loyalty
in their men.

Whereas the UK/US were seized by religious fervour, they were behaving like militant Christians drunk on victory. One German testimony recounts that the American soldiers shot German doctors and their patients. In fact, it was the West which planned reprisals with harsh measures, plans which horrified even Churchill, and which some tried to pin
on the communists Harry Dexter White and Stalin.

Now we are possibly moving towards a timeline where Putin might fck up big time by dropping nukes in the wrong places (was meant to be for tactical use), setting in motion the worst wave of persecution against Russians, worse than the communist scare. There was an interesting symbolic dream about this: https://old.reddit.com/r/Dreams/comments/xfkod7/the_goat_in_ukraine/

Two other relevant dreams about Ukraine, possibly about it being partitioned between several countries:

https://schauungen.de/forum/index.php?mode=guestbook&id=286 (this dream highlights how several nations have territorial claims on Ukraine, symbolically being torn into four pieces)

(Ukraine flag turns into 4-5 other flags, the user kentksu97 has had several confirmed premonitions come true)

My problem with the "this was promised, that was promised" claims is that they ignore there are a group of sovereign states between Germany and Russia who have their own ideas about foreign relations, alliances, and on and on.

Those countries don't belong to either Russia or Germany, a simple fact that is often ignored on social media when people discuss "causes" or "solutions" for the geopolitical tensions in this area of the world.
