World Navies beware ? - 727Sky - 08-19-2024 Navies of the world had better start thinking about jet skis with bombs capable of taking out a capitol ship... 3 billion dollar floating war ship and a jet Ski with a tactical nuke or big conventional warhead...what could go wrong ? I finally found a video that talks about some of the stuff I have been thinking about after watching the drone war in Ukraine. In another 20 years no telling where this will end up as far a nations and people killing each other ? It will be easier to launch a drone or push a button and make many people disappear even easier than it is now.... Also it will not take a defense department getting billions of dollars to come up with new kill vehicles/drones as the mom and pop drone makers in Ukraine have shown.. RE: World Navies beware ? - sailorsam - 08-19-2024 The guys can drill and do war games til doomsday but no one really knows what will happen unless there's actual war. missiles and anti-electronics will be a huge part, I think. some gloomer said that in event of war the Chinese would sink half the US fleet in an hour. and other say just the opposite. I bet Putin never imagined the impact drones would have in his 'special military operation'. RE: World Navies beware ? - EndtheMadnessNow - 08-20-2024 I think we're seeing some of this weapons tech mixed with clever old school garage inventions being rolled out (Ukrainians to the Houthis) which the US defense think-tankers seem to have overlooked. I mean the Air Force/DARPA/private defense contractors were testing drones to shoot down ICBMs back in the 80s. Lord knows what they got down in their deep underground arsenal of black tech toys...but for total annihilation instead of weapons to deal with the little annoying mice. Perhaps Russia has same issue. Iran's wet dream for past 30 years is to sink a US aircraft carrier. ![]() New Ukrainian Weaponized Jet Ski Used In Crimea Raid ![]() https://x.com/ZelenskyyUa/status/1824702832974397672 The mind-set of our MIC is if the weapons tech is under $1 Billion it's not worth doing. Quote:Analysts have questioned the alleged capabilities of hypersonic weapons, and recent studies further undermine these claims. This makes one wonder why the US government is still devoting billions of dollars to their development and deployment, thereby taking money from other pressing national needs. For the last several years, research and development on hypersonic weapons has consumed several billion dollars annually, corresponding to about 3 percent of all US defense research and development spending. Cumulatively, the United States has spent over $10 billion so far on hypersonic weapons—a figure likely to grow once these weapons enter full-scale production.Hypersonic weapons are mediocre. It’s time to stop wasting money on them Probably the best performance of hypersonic weapons is their ability to burn through money at 10X the speed of sound.
