March 31, 1889: The Eiffel Tower is officially opened. a lattice tower standing 330 metres (1,083 ft) tall on the Champ de Mars in Paris, France. It is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower from 1887 to 1889.
Locally nicknamed "La dame de fer" (French for "Iron Lady") for its use of wrought iron, it was constructed as the centrepiece of the 1889 World's Fair (6 May to 31 October 1889), and to crown the centennial anniversary of the French Revolution.

March 31, 1951: Remington Rand delivers the first UNIVAC I computer to the United States Census Bureau, and was dedicated on June 14 that year. The fifth machine (built for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission) was used by CBS to predict the result of the 1952 presidential election. With a sample of a mere 5.5% of the voter turnout, it famously predicted an Eisenhower landslide.

The UNIVAC I (Universal Automatic Computer I) was the first general-purpose electronic digital computer for business applications produced in the United States. It was designed principally by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly, the inventors of the ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer). Design work was started by their company, Eckert–Mauchly Computer Corporation (EMCC), and was completed after the company had been acquired by Remington Rand (which later became part of Sperry, now Unisys as of 1986).

March 31, 1966: Just before midnight, Milton Prell (1905-1974) opened the Aladdin Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. Prell was good friends with Colonel Tom Parker, best known as the manager of Elvis Presley. Elvis married Priscilla in Prell's apartment at Las Vegas' Aladdin hotel-casino in a private wedding shielded from the media. It was the 1st major resort to open in 9 years and had the largest casino on the Strip. A merry-go-round of owners and bankruptcies stayed with the site for decades. Now Planet Hollywood, it too went bankrupt in 1999, but recovered by 2001.

March 31, 1987: Max Headroom premiered on ABC. Max Headroom debuted in April 1985 on Channel 4 in the British cyberpunk TV movie Max Headroom: 20 Minutes into the Future, his origin story. In the movie, Edison Carter (portrayed by Matt Frewer) is a journalist fleeing enemies into a parking garage, crashing his motorcycle through the entrance barrier reading "Max. headroom 2.3 metres" – UK vehicle clearance signs use the phrase "Max headroom".

While Carter is unconscious, an AI program based on his mind is created. The AI develops a personality identified as "Max Headroom", and becomes a TV host who exists only on broadcast signals and computer systems. Like Carter, Max openly challenges the corporations that run his world, but using commentary and sarcastic wit rather than journalism.

March 31, 1999: TiVo was released. OS was Linux. Since March 31, 1999, was a blue moon, the engineering staff code-named this first version of the TiVo DVR "Blue Moon".
TiVo units were also sold in Australia, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Sweden, Taiwan, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Discontinued on October 1, 2025.

TiVo was developed by Jim Barton and Mike Ramsay through a corporation they named "Teleworld" which was later renamed TiVo Inc. Though they originally intended to create a home network device, it was redesigned as a device that records digitized video onto a hard disk. Green screen of death encountered for serious errors on TiVo devices.
