Feb 8, 1915: D. W. Griffith's controversial silent epic drama film The Birth of a Nation, originally called The Clansman premieres in Los Angeles. It was the first motion picture to be screened inside the White House, viewed there by President Woodrow Wilson, his family, and members of his cabinet. The film portrays its black characters (many of whom are played by white actors in blackface) as unintelligent and sexually aggressive toward white women. The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) is portrayed as a heroic force, necessary to preserve American values, protect white women, and maintain white supremacy.

Feb 9, 1977: Robert Aldrich's nuclear thriller TWILIGHT'S LAST GLEAMING opened in theaters. The silo/nuke takeover scenes are fantastic, but it's all downhill from there. Feb 10, 1962: Gary Powers was exchanged for KGB agent Willie Fisher, aka Rudolf Ivanovich Abel, real name William August Fisher at Glienicker Bridge Berlin.

Depicted in the 2015 movie...

Also worth noting Abel's film career began back in '68 when he performed an opening monologue in the Dead Season film (Myortvyy sezon) directed by Savva Kulish, which also featured a 'spy' exchange at the Glienicker Bridge.

Quote:The film “the Dead Season” served another purpose. Its director Savva Kulish was openly given advisers from the KGB. The film was preceded by a 10-minute speech by a real Soviet intelligence officer - Rudolf Abel (Vilyam Fisher) - who was arrested in the USA by the FBI in 1957 and in 1962 was exchanged for the U-2 spy plane pilot Gary Powers. The KGB intelligence officer’s speech was intended to make the film more “documentary”. The “Dead Season” presented the KGB version of Konon Molody’s exposure in London, his imprisonment and safe return to the Motherland.

In the Dead Season, KGB intelligence officers were depicted in a manner reminiscent of the famous British spy movie the Ipcress File (1965): they were the heroes who bravely penetrated the German army’s highest echelons during World War II and who kept fighting against inhuman Fascist scientists who not only escaped punishment but were hired by the Western intelligence after the war. The main character, inspired by Konan Molody, was a Soviet intelligence officer who was sent to the West to unmask a German scientist who was developing a new type of weapon, even more terrible than the atom bomb.

The “Dead Season” was extremely successful: more than 100 million people watched this film during its first nine months.

Propaganda, KGB style

Putin allegedly said it inspired him to join the KGB.

Years ago Richard Nixon and RoboCop joined for charity.

It did not go well.

And Robocop fell...

Then Robocop read Prime Directive #4 - "Any attempt to arrest a senior officer of OCP results in shutdown" (Listed as [Classified] in the initial activation)

Yeah, that’s right. Jones not Nixon. Robocop had been fooled. And he swore revenge.

And the video game was never released.

The Story Behind That Nixon-RoboCop Photo

On Feb 11, 1977, Jimmy Carter became the first president to fly aboard the E-4A National Emergency Airborne Command Post (NEACP, now an E-4B called the National Airborne Operations Center, or NAOC) on his first flight home to Georgia three weeks after taking office.

En route to Warner-Robins Air Force Base during the roughly 90-minute flight, Carter and Sen. Sam Nunn (D-GA) were briefed on NEACP’s capabilities by its 15-member battle staff. The flight and the public reporting about it—were no doubt of great interest to the Soviet Union.

On June 15, 1980, the Chicago Tribune reported that in the event of a nuclear attack, President Carter who had immersed himself in nuclear command and control procedures—had decided that he “plans to remain in the White House and send Vice President Mondale up in the aircraft.”

The Department of Defense tried to downplay the incident (and a second similar false alarm three days later when technicians sought to re-create and diagnose the June 3 incident) and reassure the public by arguing that ~50 previous alerts in 1979 were all valid.

Note that Jimmy was a Navy "silent service" nuke guy.

By the way, this is the final entry in Carter’s official daily diary for February 11, 1977:

President Carter was not the first president to fly aboard NEACP. That would be President Nixon, who flew on an earlier version of the “doomsday plane” eight years prior:

May 11, 1969, Richard Nixon became the first president to fly aboard the National Emergency Airborne Command Post (NEACP, aka the “Doomsday” plane), traveling from Homestead Air Force Base, Florida, to Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, on an EC-135J.

The History Of American Presidents Flying Aboard Doomsday Planes

Among those accompanying Nixon on the flight were his National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger, Chief of Staff (Plumber) H. R. “Bob” Haldeman, White House Counsel John Ehrlichman, Press Secretary Ron Ziegler, and White House Military Office aide USAF Col. James Hughes.

Haldeman memorialized the trip in his journal: “Came back to DC on the Airborne Command Post—and they staged a briefing and a test exercise. Pretty scary. They went through the whole intelligence + operational briefings—with interruptions, etc. to make it realistic.”

“Exercise proved to President that when the Russians appear to be launching an attack our options are pretty limited + our retaliatory strike power is pretty weak. ... Took President a while to get into the thing (his mind was on the peace plan) but he finally did—and was quite interested.”

“Asked a lot of questions re: our nuclear capability—and kill results. Obviously worried about the lightly tossed-about millions of deaths.”

Penned memo PDF from the National Security Archive Electronic Briefing Book No. 173 "To Have the Only Option That of Killing 80 Million People is the Height of Immorality - The Nixon Administration, the SIOP, and the Search for Limited Nuclear Options, 1969-1974".

Trial Balloon: (noun) a tentative measure taken or statement made to see how a new policy will be received. "different members of the cabinet are sending up one trial balloon after another." - Oxford dictionary

A trial balloon, or kite-flying (used in the UK and elsewhere), is information sent out to the media in order to observe the reaction of an audience. - Webster

It can be used by politicians who deliberately leak information on a policy change under consideration. Typical of deep state shenanigans when they want to steer the public in one direction.

Feb 14, 1964: “Seven Days in May,” adapted from the best-selling 1962 novel by Fletcher Knebel and Charles W. Bailey II, opened at the Trans-Lux theater in Washington, DC. (It would open in New York City on February 19.) And DR. STRANGELOVE's DC opening was not far behind.

Moorer-Radford Affair:
The Pentagon ran a spy ring on the Nixon White House, stealing classified documents from Haig and Kissinger on things as top secret as troop levels from Vietnam, and Bob Woodward served under one of the admirals involved in his time as an ONI officer before becoming a reporter.

One of the most frequent comparisons is to the novel "Seven Days in May", about a military coup in the United States, which was filmed at the White House in 1963 with JFK's approval, as he thought the plot was something that could really happen, despite being fictional.

American Conspiracy Files: The Stories We Were Never Told

The 1964 film SEVEN DAYS IN MAY is about the JCS staging a coup to overthrow the US president, who has just signed a treaty of nuclear disarmament with the Soviet Union. There's plenty of direct comparisons to be drawn with multiple presidents too...

JFK's personal friend urged him to read the novel in the summer of 1962, and the president found its premise quite realistic, saying not only that a military takeover of the gov't could happen, but even drew direct comparisons to himself, with the Bay of Pigs crisis.

JFK and the Unspeakable: Why He Died and Why It Matters (pg 12-13)

JFK felt the film would be incredibly important to warn the public of the dangers of this possibility. He encouraged the director, John Frankenheimer, to film inside the White House, and remarked that the Pentagon didn't want the film produced.

The press found the novel eerily realistic as well. Ben Starnes of the Washington Daily News wrote an article saying the CIA was a malignancy growing out of control, and he cited a high US official who said if there was ever a Seven Days in May, it would come from the CIA.

JFK and the Unspeakable: Why He Died and Why It Matters (Pg 195):

JFK was alarmed by that article about the CIA's uncontrollable nature, and he brought it up in a meeting with his NSC members the next day. 6 weeks later the first lady was picking up pieces of his brain matter off the back of the presidential limousine.

However, it wasn't just the JFK administration that drew comparisons to the film. When the Moorer-Radford Affair was revealed in 1974, about a military spy ring embedded inside the white house that went all the way up to CJSC Thomas Moorer, the parallels were obvious.

The press made several comparisons to the film (including TIME magazine), as did Pentagon investigator W. Donald Stewart, who added that Moorer should've been court-martialed, and the senate whitewashed it.

It's clear Oliver Stone also took a lot of inspiration from the film too, and it's worth mentioning that the base where the coup is staged is "Site Y", and in the movie JFK the lansdale stand-in is "General Y". Lansdale has been ID'd in dealey plaza but that's a whole other thing.

“Seven Days in May” features the first on-screen depiction of the Presidential Emergency Satchel (aka the “Black Bag,” aka the “Football”), which helped to perpetuate the (incorrect) idea that it is always handcuffed to the wrist of the military aide who carries it.

In 1988, BBC’s excellent three episode “A Very British Coup” (adapted from the 1982 novel of the same name by Chris Mullin), explored very similar themes. The miniseries was broadcast in the United States on PBS’s “Masterpiece Theatre” in January 1989.

RE: Meme Scholar with Madness (PhD) - EndtheMadnessNow - 02-15-2023

Dr. Madness continues...

Today in 1987, the highly-controversial 14 1/2 hour, week-long miniseries “AMERIKA” — Starring Rhodes scholar, second lieutenant Ranger helicopter pilot Kris Kristofferson, and Robert Urich, Wendy Hughes, about life in the United States in 1997, 10 years after a Soviet invasion and occupation that premiered on ABC (more than 3 years after ABC produced and broadcast the widely-watched nuclear war movie "The Day After", which many right-wing conservatives claimed was left-wing propaganda)

Many liberals dismissed the mini-series as right wing paranoia, while many conservatives complained that the Soviet brutality that was depicted was seriously underplayed. Kris Kristofferson insisted on removing unfavorable references to the United Nations. The Soviet government at one point threatened to shut down the ABC News Moscow Bureau if the mini-series aired (although this threat was never carried out.) This prompted ABC President John B. Sias to state "We're going to run that program come rain, blood, or horse manure."

“Money, capital has a life of its own...it’s a force of nature, like gravity, like the oceans it flows where it wants to flow.” ~ Maxwell Emory in  Rollover 1981; Kris Kristofferson & Hanoi Jane.

NBC counter-programmed with THE FACTS OF LIFE DOWN UNDER. AMERIKA won the night in the ratings.

“Believing ABC’s mini-series ‘exploits ignorance, fear and paranoia about the Soviet Union,’ [Ted] Turner is broadcasting more than 12 hours of counterprogramming without commercial interruption over superstation WTBS(TV) Atlanta throughout the month.”

Source: Page 54 of magazine: The Fifth Estate - Radio TV Cable Statellite Broadcasting Feb 16, 1987 (Vol 112 No. 7)

The 14 1/2 hour miniseries was a direct response to conservative criticism of “The Day After” and ABC’s decision to broadcast it. It was inspired by Nixon speechwriter Ben Stein’s column in the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner published Oct 31, 1983; 21 days before “The Day After.”

Snippet from Canadian university professor & researcher Robert A. Hackett's (2008) scholar essay The Campaign Against ‘Amerika’: Catalyst for Media Democratization (PDF):

Quote:Filming began in spring 1986, in Tecumseh, a depressed rural Nebraskan town which doubled as Milford in Amerika's Heartland. Smitten by the glamour of Hollywood, the local press greeted the film with civic boosterism, and the populace lined up for jobs as extras. The relatively few Nebraskan peace activists who protested the film's militaristic implications were generally ignored or dismissed as spoilsports.
..
The protests focused on several themes. Most frequently, the film was decried for fostering an unduly paranoid view of the USSR, a criticism shared even by some Establishment figures, like ex-CIA chief William Colby. Other elite critics focused on the film's negative depiction of United Nations’ peacekeepers as a brutal tool of Soviet domination. Prodded by concerned Americans and Canadians, UN officials and supporters joined the emerging controversy.

Critics further to the left were angered by the film's portrayal of socialist and even liberal interpretations of American society as Soviet propaganda, by its perceived stereotyping of women that provided grounds for a feminist critique of the film, and by its promotion of militarism. FAIR’s founder Jeff Cohen called the mini-series a commercial for Reagan's Star Wars program (Waters 1986)

One suspects, however, that much of the opposition was animated less by the film's (mis)representation of specific groups and viewpoints than by the “structure of feeling” (Williams 1977) that it both expressed and evoked.

Amerika was, in the very words of an ABC commercial, a "call to arms”. It sought to "revitalize" American patriotism, without clearly distinguishing it from superpower chauvinism, and to equate it with an ideologically narrow set of values, such as "freedom" defined as rugged individualism. It created a mood of siege from without and betrayal from within, and provided a myth of national degradation and potential redemption through a charismatic (male) leader who personifies national ideals. It offered the pleasure of a narrative in which American audiences could, yet again, revel in seeing themselves as victims, underdogs and rebels—an inversion of their system's real role in the world which had been evident in popular literature even
following the US atomic bombing of Japan (Boyer 1985, 14)

In short, Amerika was a litmus test of political sensibilities. It was most likely to offend Americans whose social experience or historical memory—most notably from the counterculture of the Vietnam war era—gave them reason to fear the intensification of American nationalism into an unreflective chauvinism. It was a lightning rod for Americans who felt the dominant media had been complicit in the political consequences of Reaganism—renewed Cold War tensions, the containment of domestic dissent, growing economic inequality, and a militaristic and interventionist foreign policy. Similar sentiments regarding the US corporate media’s complicity in massaging public opinion prior to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, catalyzed outrage and resurgent media activism two decades later (McChesney 2004, 279-80).

Here is a promotional commercial for “AMERIKA” which highlights the stars in the cast and some of the action yet still manages to be rather boring:

Some Boomers claim this miniseries planted the memetic virus in fellow Boomer brains that resulted in the black helicopters/NWO/UN takeover conspiracy theories of the 90s that evolved into the Soros/Globalist/Great Reset shit we have today.

Here’s an interesting historical footnote regarding the tendentious and little-remembered 1987 miniseries “AMERIKA” found in the Variety archives: Nicholas Meyer (@NicholasMQ) and cast members from THE DAY AFTER requested rebuttal time on ABC after the network's Soviet occupation miniseries AMERIKA ran in Feb. 1987. ABC instead aired a ViewPoint special hosted by Ted Koppel.

Gen. Bradley Chance Saltzman formally elevated to Space Force’s highest position – Chief of Space Operations. He held numerous missile crew, instructor, and evaluator positions at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana. The same base that had that weird UFO incident in 1967 that supposedly took the ICBMs off-line and more recently the balloon wizards that sailed very near to this base.

This is interesting...given the timing...

Quote:BILLINGS- Montana’s 341st Missile Wing at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls is responsible for 150 launch facilities across Montana.

It’s a historic and complex program with national security interest, and some are suspecting it’s the reason a Chinese surveillance balloon was seen floating above the state this week.

“I’d like to find an answer for why it's hanging over our area,” Lewistown lawmaker Dan Bartel said Friday.

Bartel is a state senator representing a district in Fergus County, an area with some of Malmstrom’s missile sites.

The Department of Defense has referenced these critical zones in its media briefings on the balloon in recent days. Meanwhile, the Department of Defense has been making plans for a massive overhaul of the nuclear missiles scattered across the state.

The upgrades are something Bartel is familiar with because 50 of those missile locations are in Fergus County.

He says the upgrades were set to start in 2025. Now that’s been pushed back, and talks about upgrades with the Air Force suddenly became radio silent.

“We’ve been told that the project has been pushed out. It’s been pushed out two years,” he said. “They are having some redesign issues with the missiles themselves.”

The sites are spread across a 13,800-square-mile missile field that covers parts of eight counties: Cascade, Chouteau, Fergus, Judith Basin, Lewis and Clark, Meagher, Teton and Wheatland.

The project will replace the aging Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile system.

“The missiles have been around since the '60s so now they are being upgraded to the new technology,” said Bartel.

It includes the complete renovation of all 450 existing missile launch facilities, and the construction of two dozen new missile alert facilities all over the northwest, including Malmstrom Air Force Base, Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota, and F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming.

Bartel says the presence of the military in town has been a big boom for the local economy and helped maintain county roads.

But when the construction starts for the missile upgrades, the town will grow even more.

"First estimates are there would be about 1,500 new people during construction moving in and around these missile areas,” he said.

Bartel said he hopes they can put permanent infrastructure in place for the Lewistown workforce hub so that after work is completed, it can be converted for community uses – whether housing or something else.

Already forgotten, (soon will be) what is the fallout from the spy balloon fiasco? Who benefitted from the press exposure? Were the balloons American? Was this a balloon psy warfare clownish stunt by the Pentagon and UAPTF? Engineered to set back the disclosure movement and a call for moar $$$? The UAPTF benefitted. "See? There are no aliens because we've shot them all down!" The message is clear: ET spacecraft are a figment of mass psychosis hallucination. We know best, citizen." Whatever the case, I guarantee it is nothing new except new clown faces in the old USSA establishment of cold war Skulduggery theater to distract everyone from the ongoing train wreck that is Swampington, DC. Maybe, who really knows anymore.

Quote:Amid heightened focus on airborne national security risks, U.S. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), chair of the Senate Armed Services Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee and member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and Marco Rubio (R-FL), Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, are leading a bipartisan push for full funding of their unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) office, formally known as the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO).

Gillibrand and Rubio’s groundbreaking AARO was created following their UAP amendment in the FY22 NDAA to focus the Department of Defense (DoD) on resolving UAP sightings, improve data sharing between DoD and the Intelligence Community on UAP sightings, address national security concerns, and report health effects people may experience in relation to UAP events. AARO has access to DoD and Intelligence Community UAP data and is required to provide Congress with briefings and reports on UAPs. FY23 funding falls short of what AARO needs to fulfill its mission and maintain American air supremacy.

In addition to Gillibrand and Rubio, the letter pushing for full funding of AARO is signed by Senators Warner (D-VA), Graham (R-SC), Heinrich (D-NM), Cramer (R-ND), Shaheen (D-NH), Kelly (D-AZ), Warren (D-MA), Kaine (D-VA), Bennet (D-CO), Hickenlooper (D-CO), Blumenthal (D-CT), Klobuchar (D-MN), Sullivan (R-AK), and Rosen (D-NV).

“AARO provides the opportunity to integrate and resolve threats and hazards to the U.S., while also offering increased transparency to the American people and reducing the stigma around this issue of high public interest,” wrote the senators. “AARO’s success will depend on robust funding for its activities and cooperation between the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. As such, we respectfully request your assistance in securing the necessary funding and organizational support for AARO’s success and longevity.”

This character in the ugly pin-stripe suit played by Roger Allam (most famously in V for Vendetta, 2005) is in the new movie TETRIS named Robert Maxwell, UK publishing tycoon and Sinclair Computers investor. The Epstein/Maxwell network is endless.

Film plot: An American and Russian computer geek form an unlikely friendship as they try to evade the KGB and smuggle the world's most famous video game out of the Soviet Union.

I'll spare you the TETRIS history.

For another jaw drop...

Quote:Acting? This is the real thing (The Times, Nov 25, 2002)

For ‘actor’s actor’ Roger Allam, starring with Gillian Anderson could finally be the making of him.

AT FIRST appearances there appears to be a mismatch of glamour. When Gillian Anderson, radiant international star of the X-Files, takes to the London stage in What the Night is For her partner on stage is Roger Allam. He’s the sort of self-effacing, slightly broke theatre actor who will take the bus home afterwards while Miss Anderson is being ferried about in a limo.

Allam’s background is solidly Anglican. His father was vicar of St Mary Woolnoth, the Hawksmoor church celebrated by T.S. Eliot. At Manchester University young Roger took singing lessons from John Hargreaves at the ENO but abandoned the idea of being a professional opera baritone and went into the theatre. He joined the RSC in 1981, playing a huge variety of roles, touring and having a ball prior to a year’s run in the RSC’s Les Misérables.

T. S. Eliot refers to this church in a famous passage of his 1922 poem The Waste Land, Part 1, 'The Burial of the Dead':

A crowd flowed over London Bridge, so many,
I had not thought death had undone so many.
Sighs, short and infrequent, were exhaled,
And each man fixed his eyes before his feet.
Flowed up the hill and down King William Street,
To where Saint Mary Woolnoth kept the hours
With a dead sound on the final stroke of nine.
There I saw one I knew, and stopped him, crying, "Stetson!
You who were with me in the ships at Mylae!

If only there was some easy visual metaphor to illustrate the realization that Jeffrey Epstein's independently wealthy socialite partner was the daughter of a notorious Cold War double-agent (some say triple-agent)/blackmail-merchant.

The Epstein/Maxwell network is a spider web from hell that encapsulates planet Earth. At the deepest end of the Ghislaine/Epstein abyss is the lost city of Atlantis...which is actually what she was attempting to find.

After listening to Dr. Joseph Farrell bring up his Nazi International thesis..."there's a non-state actor on the world stage and its basic philosophy is materialist & fascist." I wonder if Epstein & his socialite demon Ghislaine worked for the same Int'l cabal/syndicate that currently controls the Biden regime.

Feb 19 is Japanese American Day of Remembrance, marking 81 years since President Franklin Delano Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066 and set in motion the internment of some 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry living on the West Coast, ~70,000 of whom were US citizens.

E.O. 9066 also led the US gov’t to detain roughly 11,500 people of German ancestry and about 10,000 of Italian ancestry—many of whom were US citizens. Another 600,000 Italian-Americans had their movements sharply restricted.

Under the leadership of J. Edgar Hoover , the FBI began a secret five-year plan in 1935 to investigate individuals residing in the United States who maintained ties to communist or Nazi organizations. With assistance from the Military Intelligence Division (MID) and the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), by 1938 the FBI had developed a list of 2,500 alleged communists and Nazis living inside the United States. Just a year later, with war looming in Europe, U.S. officials claimed that the FBI was monitoring "more than ten million persons."

I wonder what those numbers are today?

In 1988, after a ten-year campaign by the Japanese-American community, Congress passed and President Reagan signed the Civil Liberties Act, formally apologizing for the racial prejudice and hysteria that led to the internment and offering $20,000 redress payments to survivors.

In all, 82,220 survivors received payments from the government totaling more than $1.6 billion. On October 9, 1990, Hisano Fujimoto, 101, of Lombard, Ill., received her redress check from Attorney General Dick Thornburgh in Washington, D.C. (Photo by Takeshi Nakayama/Rafu Shimpo)

Legislation prohibiting the government from detaining or imprisoning American citizens solely on the basis of race, religion, nationality, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or disability is pending before Congress.

Statement from Grifter-in-Chief...

Quote:When President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, eighty-one years ago today, it ushered in one of the most shameful periods in American history. The wrongful incarceration of 120,000 Americans of Japanese descent tore families apart. Men, women, and children were forced to abandon their homes, their jobs, their communities, their businesses, and their way of life. They were sent to inhumane concentration camps simply because of their heritage. And in a tragic miscarriage of justice, the Supreme Court upheld these immoral and unconstitutional policies.

Despite losing liberty, security, and the fundamental freedoms that rightfully belonged to them, 33,000 Japanese Americans volunteered or were drafted for service in the U.S. military during World War II. While their own families were behind barbed wires, Japanese Americans fought in defense of the nation’s freedom with valor and courage.

The incarceration of Japanese Americans reminds us what happens when racism, fear, and xenophobia go unchecked. As we battle for the soul of our nation, we continue to combat the corrosive effects of hate on our democracy and the intergenerational trauma resulting from it. We reaffirm the Federal Government’s formal apology to Japanese Americans for the suffering inflicted by these policies. And we commit to Nidoto Nai Yoni – to “Let It Not Happen Again.”

Feb 19, 1947: “The Beginning or the End” a docudrama about the Manhattan Project and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki—premiered at the Lowes Palace in Washington, DC. Despite MGM’s huge promotion, it received very mixed reviews and flopped at the box office.

The Beginning or The End (1947) - Trailer LMAO

For the full and fascinating story of how this film came to be made—including how Lt Gen. Leslie Groves, who oversaw the construction of the Pentagon and military director of the Manhattan Project, was heavily involved in rewriting the script, and how President Truman demanded changes to his portrayal, see this 2020 book:

Quote:One of the interesting ones to pop up again and again is the question of whether the United States warned Hiroshima and Nagasaki about their impending destruction. It’s a discussion in this case that has actually been confused by the abundance of context-less primary sources on the Internet. In particular, the Truman Library posted (some time back) copies of leaflets that it has labeled as being dropped on August 6, 1945 — the day of the Hiroshima bombing. These leaflets have proliferated across the web onto other reputable sites, like PBS’s Truman resources. The understandable result is that a lot of amateur historians out there have concluded that indeed, we did warn the Japanese.

But the truth, as with many things, is more complicated. I want to talk about three potential “warnings,” here, as both a means to help clarify this issue (to any other future Googlers about this topic), and also to use it as a case study for why history is more than just finding documents.

Yesterday's "Rage Against the War Machine" rally in America was possibly the first ever anti-war rally to be dominated by symbols of the country which started the war. Woke up today to be greeted with the trending madness...

Protesters gathered at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC for an anti-war rally dubbed "Rage Against the War Machine". Protesters demanded peace in Ukraine and an end to US military funding for Ukraine.

Jimmy Dore's comedic sarcasm speech at the Rage Against the War Machine rally...though judging by comments on Twitter0sphere, many took it literal.

"Why are we sending that money to Nazi's in Ukraine when we could be funding Nazi's here in America struggling to buy eggs. Isn't that just like our government to neglect all the Nazi's we have here in America..."

The Rage Against The War Machine rally was a political freak show attended by Libertarians, fascists, Larouchites, and confused middle-class individuals without an independent program or perspective.

I went out to dinner last night at an expensive all cashless hotel restaurant and observed of the few people & a few early age teens, and flashing smartphones as young couples took selfies toasting with glasses of wine, I felt like I was in a dystopian parallel world. The large open room with high vaulted Victorian style ceiling with 19th century masonic symbolism decorating the tall pillars everywhere was so dark I had to pull out my pocket flashlight just to read the menu. I & few friends were seated at a large window overlooking the empty streets below and the gloomy cityscape as paper trash blew down the alleys in between the flickering neon signs and thought, yep, this is it, it's over, buckle up, we are all doomed and still most don't even know it. Meh, maybe I'm just getting older and able to see what most others cannot. On the brighter side the food & Irish coffee was excellent.

If you ask the British war heathens what they got up to with chemical weapons after WWII these little whitecoat rascals will skitter into your home as you sleep and carry you away to Anthrax Island.

Today's fun fact in class I’d like to share that A Clockwork Orange was a documentary about chemical weapons and psychological experiments at Porton Down. *I’m immediately bundled into a cart and exiled to Gruinard Island*

Quote:On Tuesday, investigators searched several companies in northern and southern Germany. It is suspected that the companies have been exporting highly toxic chemicals to Russia without permission for years. Some of these substances can also be used to produce chemical weapons, German media reported.

According to information from public broadcasters NDR and WDR and the newspaper "Sueddeutsche Zeitung", investigators assume that the substances in question include chemical compounds that can be used as raw materials for the production of chemical and biological warfare agents - e.g. mustard gas.
