March 25, 1973: Master spy Alexander Mikhailovich Orlov died. He was a high ranking NKVD officer who secretly defected to U.S., eluding former colleagues and FBI for years. He pulled off THE HEIST of the century, by stealing Spain’s entire gold reserves of 510 tons for the USSR. Way to go bro! In 1938, Orlov refused to return to the Soviet Union due to the Great Purge by Stalin and fears of execution, he fled with his family to the United States. He went by many names and had many passports.

Leiba Lazarevich Feldbin (he adopted the name Alexander Orlov in 1936) was born in Babruysk, Belarus on August 21, 1895 to an Orthodox Jewish family. His father, Lazer Feldbin, worked in the timber industry.

After the death of Stalin in March 1953, the following month he published his memoir The Secret History of Stalin's Crimes with four excerpts in LIFE magazine issues of April 1953. Afterward he was forced to come in from the cold. However, both the CIA and the FBI clowns were sorely embarrassed by the revelation that a high-ranking NKVD officer (Orlov was a Major of State Security, equal to an Army Brigadier General) had been living underground in the United States for 15 years without their knowledge. Until he resurfaced in the US with his revelations in the Life Magazine, Orlov had lived in the US under the name Alexander L. Berg. As the FBI was searching in vain for him and his wife, "two unidentified Russian aliens", he was studying business administration at Dyke College, Cleveland, Ohio. The College and the local FBI division were located in the same Standard Building on 1370 Ontario Street and St Clair Avenue, occupying the third and the ninth floors, respectively. Ironically, the FBI officers "never paid any attention to the student who had long figured on the FBI’s most wanted list and who rode the elevators with them every day." LOL! Just like in the spy comedy movies.

Orlov was eventually interrogated by the FBI and twice appeared before Senate Sub-Committees, but he always downplayed his role in events and continued to conceal the names of Soviet agents in the West.

Orlov and his wife continued to live secretly and quite comfortably thanks to CIA protection and they helped him publish another book, The Handbook of Counter-Intelligence and Guerilla Warfare, including getting him a job as a researcher at the Law School of the University of Michigan. His last book, The March of Time: Reminiscences, was published in the US in 2004 by the former FBI Special Agent Ed Gazur.

Father of psychological warfare::

Paul M.A. Linebarger had the international pedigree and double life of a John le Carré character. Born to Sun Yat-sen’s American adviser, Linebarger grew up in China, Germany, and the United States, spoke six languages, and received his doctorate at twenty-three. After teaching at Duke, he was hired by the US War Department to serve as the Far East Asian specialist of the Psychological Warfare branch.

Linebarger studied both Allied and Axis propaganda efforts and concluded that the British were superior, because they disguised their propaganda as news.

Paul Myron Anthony Linebarger (July 11, 1913 – August 6, 1966), better known by his pen-name Cordwainer Smith, was an American author known for his science fiction works. Linebarger was a US Army officer, a noted East Asia scholar, and an expert in psychological warfare. Although his career as a writer was shortened by his death at the age of 53, he is considered one of science fiction's more talented and influential authors.

Linebarger's father, Paul Myron Wentworth Linebarger, was a lawyer, working as a judge in the Philippines. There he met Chinese nationalist Sun Yat-sen to whom he became an advisor. Linebarger's father sent his wife to give birth in Milwaukee, Wisconsin so that their child would be eligible to become president of the United States. Sun Yat-sen, who was considered the father of Chinese nationalism, became Linebarger's godfather.

Throngs of himself "Paul Linebarger wrote science fiction as Cordwainer Smith. His multiple selves did not stop there." (Johns Hopkins University magazine)

The official Cordwainer Smith website run by his daughter, Rosana Hart.

Quote:A year of wrangling produced the solution, after a Joint Psychological Warfare Committee had been set up under the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and had failed to fulfill an effective policy-supervising function. On 13 June, 1942 the President created the Office of War Information. This agency was given control directly or indirectly over all domestic propaganda, and over white propaganda abroad, except for the Western Hemisphere, which remained under the Rockefeller Committee in the State Department. The FIS was taken from the COI, and the COI took on the new name of OSS—Office of Strategic Services—under which it retained three major functions:

    (1) continuation of scholastic and informal intelligence;
    (2) black propaganda operations (given explicit authority only in March, 1943);
    (3) subversive operations, in collaboration with regular military authority.

The OWI was placed under Mr. Elmer Davis, a Rhodes scholar and novelist who had become one of the nation's most popular radio commentators. The FIS was perpetuated under the control of Mr. Robert Sherwood, who had a most extraordinary coterie of odd personalities assisting him: Socialist refugees, advertising men, psychologists, psychoanalysts (of both the licensed and lay varieties), professional promoters, theatrical types, German professors, a commercial attaché, young men just out of college, oil executives, and popular authors (novelists, slick writers, Pulitzer winners, pulp writers, humorists, poets and a professional pro-Japanese writer, fresh off the Imperial Japanese Embassy payroll).

The War Department agency, under the Military Intelligence Service of G-2, had been renamed Psychological Warfare Branch and had executed within the G-2 structure the equivalent of a knight's move in chess, ending up at a new place on the TO with no observable change in function or authority; it had passed under the authority of Colonel (later Brigadier General) Oscar Solbert, a West Pointer with wide international and business experience; he had been out of the Army as a top official with Eastman Kodak, after a cosmopolitan army career which sent him all over Europe and gave him one tour of duty as a White House aide. With the establishment of OWI, Colonel Solbert's office fissiparated like an amoeba; the civilian half of Psychological Warfare Branch, with a few officers, went over to OWI to be a brain-trust for the foreign broadcast experts, who failed to welcome this accession of talent; the military half remained as an MIS agency until 31 December, 1943, when OWI abolished its half and MIS cooperated by wiping out the other, leaving the War Department in the middle of a war with no official psychological warfare agency whatever, merely some liaison officers.

Psychological warfare became the responsibility of designated individual officers in OPD—(the Operations Division of the General Staff), an outfit celebrated for conscientious overwork, as well as in MIS and the War Department got along very nicely. Meanwhile OWI and OSS fought one of the many battles of Washington, each seeking control of foreign propaganda. The D.C. and Manhattan newspapers ran columns on this fight, along with news of the fighting in Russia, Libya, and the Pacific. For one glorious moment of OSS, it seemed that the President had signed over all foreign propaganda functions conducted outside the United States to OSS, cutting the OWI out of everything except its New York and San Francisco transmitters; the OWI was stricken with gloom and collective indigestion. The next day, the mistake was rectified, and OWI triumphantly planned raids on the jurisdiction of OSS. Meanwhile, the following things were happening:

Highly classified plans for psychological warfare were being drafted for both the Joint and Combined Chiefs of Staff. These were discussed at various meetings and then classified a little higher, whereupon they were locked up, lest the propaganda writers and broadcasters see them and break security on them by obeying and applying them.

Broadcasts—thousands of words in dozens of languages—were transmitted to everyone on earth. They were written by persons who had little if any contact with Federal policy, and none with the military establishment, except for formal security. The plans at the top bore no observable relation to the operations at the bottom.

March 25, 1999: FSB officer Alexander Litvinenko arrested in Moscow. Sent to Lefortovo Prison. Acquitted and moves to UK for safety where he worked as a journalist, writer and consultant for the British intelligence services. Later poisoned with polonium-210. The plot's mastermind is still at large.

Alexander Valterovich Litvinenko (1962 - 23 November 2006) was a British-naturalised Russian defector and former officer of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) who specialised in tackling organised crime. A prominent critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, he advised British intelligence and coined the term "mafia state".

In the 2021 case Carter v Russia, (his widow Marina Litvinenko aka Maria Anna Carter) the European Court of Human Rights ruled that Russia assassinated Alexander Litvinenko and ordered the country to pay 100,000 euros in damages.

The inquiry report was released on 21 January 2016. The report found that Litvinenko was killed by two Russian agents, Andrei Lugovoi and Dmitry Kovtun and that there was a "strong probability" they were acting on behalf of the Russian FSB secret service. Paragraphs 10.6 - 10.16, page 245 of the report stated: "The FSB operation to kill Mr. Litvinenko was probably approved by Mr Patrushev and also by President Putin."

The container ship MV "DALI" hit the Francis Scott Key bridge outside Port Baltimore early yesterday morning, destroying it completely.

The Ship’s Master is Ukrainian (although allegedly not at the helm at the time of the incident) and the Port of Baltimore is responsible for 25% of all US Coal exports.

The symbolic bridge was named for the guy who wrote the Star Spangled Banner. It was erected at the approximate point where the British anchored to shell Fort McHenry during the War of 1812.

It should not be a surprise where the goods aboard the MV Dali came from:

The number of conspiracies already floating around is stunning. Is anyone surprised that armchair experts don't know that the majority of modern large container ships are in some way owned, manufactured, operated, chartered, crewed, or financed by Chinese entities? Or that they have no idea who is involved in the operation of a ship, which systems do what, or how literally any of this works?

Salvador DALI had a painting called "The Broken Bridge and the Dream."

"The English had their grave-robbing rights withdrawn" — German illustration (1924) showing one of Tutankhamun's guardian statues booting a British archaeologist out of the tomb. Artist: Erich Schilling. Published on the cover of Simplicissimus magazine, 10 March 1924.

"The English had their license to desecrate corpses withdrawn."
Leichenschändung means necrophilia. "Corpses withdrawn" is a very soft translation for this word. Haha.

Presumably referring to the dispute between the Egyptian government and archaeologist Howard Carter, who complained that the Egyptian Antiquities Service was interfering in the excavation of Tutankhamun's tomb. Carter left the excavation site for a year in early 1924.

The Jolly Roger from HMS E54 (British E-class submarine) will go on display at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum next month. Flown by HMS E54 in 1916, the flag is believed to be the oldest surviving one of its kind. Subs began to fly the Jolly Roger during WWI because the First Sea Lord of the British Royal Navy had stated that submarine warfare was "underhanded, unfair, and damned un-English", and that captured enemy submariners should be hanged as pirates.

At least twice in 2017, the USS Jimmy Carter (SSN-23), (attack submarine) which has been modified to support special forces operations, returned to its home port flying a Jolly Roger. The reason for flying the flag has never been made public. In US silent service lore it means the secret mission was a success, including the rendition of a person and/or object.

The UK has a name for its next nuclear warhead: A21/Mk7 Astraea.

Delivering the UK’s Nuclear Deterrent as a National Endeavour (PDF)

The UK Ministry of Defence subsequently suggested that just like the similarities between the current US and UK warheads, the UK’s replacement warhead will be very similar to the US W93: “It’s not exactly the same warhead but . . . there is a very close connection in design terms and production terms”.
United Kingdom nuclear weapons, 2021

Astraea, Astrea, Astria or Austräa meaning "star-maiden" or "starry night", in ancient Greek religion, is a daughter of Astraeus and Eos. She is the virgin goddess of justice, innocence, purity and precision. She is closely associated with the Greek goddess of justice, Dike (daughter of Zeus and Themis). She is not to be confused with Asteria, the goddess of the stars and the daughter of Coeus and Phoebe. The main belt asteroid 5 Astraea is named after her, and her name was also suggested for the planet Uranus.

According to myth, (probably British aristocrats too) Astraea will one day come back to Earth, bringing with her the return of the utopian Golden Age of which she was the ambassador.

March 27, 1943: HMS Dasher (D37) suffered a major internal explosion and sank in the Firth of Clyde, taking the lives of 379 of the escort carrier's 528 crewmen. For two years, the British government suppressed news about the Royal Navy's second-biggest loss in UK waters during the war. Decades later, controversy still surrounds the incident because the cause of the explosion has never been determined, and there have been allegations that the recovered bodies of crewmen were secretly buried in mass graves.

The machine in question is called a "Chronovisor" and was built in the 1950s by a Benedictine monk named Father Pellegrino Ernetti.

Ernetti reportedly used the "way back machine" to film Christ's crucifixion for Vatican officials. Ernetti died in 1994 without revealing the secret of the Chronovisor but a guy named John Chambers says some 20 years ago that  evidence is mounting that the Catholic Church is hiding a working model from the rest of the world, supposedly to keep it from getting into evil hands.

Sound crazy?

Chambers says a Jesuit priest named Father Francois Brune believes the Chronovisor must exist because, in the priest's words,

"Ernetti wouldn't lie about such things."

There you have it folks. It's real and we know Jesuit priests don't *lie*.

March 28, 1942: the destroyer HMS Campbeltown (the former USS Buchanan) rammed the gates of the Normandie dry dock at St.Nazaire in German-occupied France in a daring raid known as Operation Chariot. Commandos then disembarked to destroy machinery and other targets of opportunity. One of the greatest acts of heroism in the war.

The delayed-action explosives hidden on Campbeltown detonated hours later, knocking the dock out of service for the remainder of the war and killing several senior German officers who were touring the ship.

Of the 612 men who undertook the raid, 228 returned to Britain, 169 were killed and 215 became prisoners of war. German casualties included over 360 dead, some of whom were killed after the raid when Campbeltown exploded. To recognise their bravery, 89 members of the raiding party were awarded decorations, including five Victoria Crosses. After the war, St Nazaire was one of 38 battle honours awarded to the commandos. The operation has been called "the greatest raid of all" in British military circles.

The 1952 film "Gift Horse" aka Glory at Sea was loosely based on the actual raid undertaken in 1942 by HMS Campbeltown.

Admiral Nimitz recipe for the Old Fashioned Mix which he calls “CINCPAC SPECIAL”

    1 clean one gallon jug
    3 quarts Bourbon
1/4 of a fifth of gold label rum
Add sugar cautiously until you can just detect the presence of sugar.
Fill remainder of jug with tap water.
Desirable, but not necessary: drop two whole vanilla beans into the jug to stay for many refills of the jug. They last for years.
Pour generous portions over ice and serve it forth:

This recipe was developed by Admiral Nimitz when he was Commander in Chief of the Pacific at a time when liquor was rationed, a bottle a week to a man and frequently rum was the only kind available.

"Patient X" S5 E13 aired March 1, 1998 - script excerpt:

Quote:MULDER: All this conjecture - the "ontological shock" that you speak of, for which we are so ill-equipped - is not only false but dangerous. This woman ... this woman presents no good or credible testimony apart from the feel-good message that she promotes.

FAZIO: You think she's lying?

MULDER: No, I don't think she's lying. I think that if you prepare people well enough to believe a lie, they will believe it as if it were true. And if you tell them a really big lie, like there are aliens from outer space, much more than a small one, they will believe in it. And if you suggest to them these aliens are doing bad things to them, the ... the power of the suggestion will be to make people believe that certain psychopathologies and neuroses that they're suffering from can now be attributed to that.

LAGERQVIST: Mr. Mulder ... Agent Mulder, she has physical ailments.

WOMAN: Are you discounting any belief in the existence of extraterrestrials?

MULDER: No. I just question mindless belief.

FAZIO: But you've cited evidence. You've made claims yourself.

MULDER: What I've seen, I've seen because I wanted to believe. I ... if you look too hard, you can go mad, but if you continue to look, you become liberated. And you become awake, as if from a dream, realizing that ... that the lies are there simply to protect what they're advertising: a government which knows its greatest strength is not in defense, but in attack. It's strongly held by believers in UFO phenomena that there is military complicity or involvement in abductions, but what if there is no complicity? What if there is simply just the military, seeking to develop an arsenal against which there is no defense: biological warfare, which justifies - in their eyes - making an ass out of the nation with stories of little green men - a conspiracy wrapped in a plot inside a government agenda.

[Several people shake their heads in disbelief. Later, when the conference is over, Mulder goes to leave. But a man in the audience catches his eye - his regression hypnotherapist, DR. HEITZ WERBER.]

MULDER: Dr. Werber?

WERBER: It's been some time.

MULDER: Almost five years.

WERBER: I came down expecting to hear how your work had progressed. I'm ... surprised, to say the least.

MULDER: A lot has changed.

WERBER: You seem to have abandoned something you believed so completely. In spite of what I know about you from our work together - the memories I helped you recover about the experience with your sister.

MULDER: Well, I've come to distrust a lot of things. I've - I've come to distrust those memories.

WERBER: I'm sorry.

MULDER: For what?

WERBER: I've taken a lot of criticism for my work with alien abductees, and in the field itself. The regression hypnosis work I did with you ...

MULDER: I'm not questioning your methods, Dr. Werber. I'm questioning myself, and how I was tricked, how I was led to believe through an elaborate staging of events that my sister had been abducted.

WERBER: A man with faith can indulge in the luxury of skepticism.

MULDER: I don't think you understand. There's just too much evidence that it's all been a lie. The conspiracy is not to hide the existence of extraterrestrials. It's to make people believe in it so completely that they question nothing.

WERBER: So, you and I have just been advocates of insanity all along? Is this the extreme possibility you believe in now?

MULDER: Yeah. Is Patient "X" any more credible?

WERBER: I hope so. I'm her doctor. I think you should meet her. I think you might change your mind.

Over the decades, Cynthia McKinney flew far off the reservation by promoting a 2000+ year old myth. On September 11, 2023, McKinney promoted a livestream called "Can Black People and White People Work Together to Defeat Our Common Enemy" with the Star of David, indicating that the "common enemy" is Jews. The livestream was to be hosted by Ayo Kimathi (aka Irritated Genie), the author of Jews Are the Problem and described by the ADL as "antisemitic and anti-LGBTQ+ Black nationalist extremist" and David Duke, a former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard and anti-semite. In the livestream, Kimathi explicitly advocated for ties with White nationalists to actively eradicate "the Jew."

Fides was the goddess of trust, faithfulness, and good faith (bona fides) in ancient Roman religion. She was one of the original virtues to be considered an actual religious divinity.

She was also worshipped under the name Fides Publica Populi Romani ("Public (or Common) Trust of the Roman People"). She is represented as a young woman crowned with an olive or laurel wreath, holding in her hand a turtle-dove, fruits or grain, or a military ensign. She wears a white veil.

Rome’s second king, Numa Pompilius began the annual rites to Fides Publica (Public Trust) on October 1. Her temple in Rome held the state treaties. One of the oldest of Roman Gods, Fides holds the same place of importance with Jupiter Optimus Maximus (Jupiter the Best and Brightest) and Dius Fidius, the God of Oathtaking.

Salve Fides!
May we keep the trust of others.
May they keep our trust.
Let us have mutual faith.
Both are needed
For society to thrive.

Hold onto your tin foil, we're jumping to a new timeline!

Is it any surprise that CERN is being reactivated on April 8, the same day as the Great North American Total Solar Eclipse? Supposedly, the particle collider can accelerate protons to a rate that's only 7 mph slower than the speed of light, resulting in 11,000 trips around its ring per second. After CERN started its Awake experiment in 2016, conspiracy theorists were convinced CERN was opening portals in the sky when photos taken near the facility revealed strange electromagnetic storms above it.

Oh don't mind the fact the main director was at the WEF meet and their biggest shareholder is Vanguard, along with Illuminati queen Christine Lagarde. Nothing to see here, sigh.

NASA will launch three rockets at the eclipse on April 8, a project called the Atmospheric Perturbations Around The Eclipse Path, or APEP, which is the name of an Egyptian serpent deity that eats the sun and embodies chaos.

Rocket launch from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia to study the disturbances in the ionosphere created when the moon eclipses the sun. The sounding rockets had been previously launched and successfully recovered from White Sands Test Facility in New Mexico, during the October 2023 annular solar eclipse.

Apep is also called Apophis, which is where the word Apophenia comes from. Ironically, Apophenia is the name given to the beginning stages of schizophrenia where everything is perceived as synchronistic. Is this ritual causing mass psychosis?

Additionally, at the same time as the eclipse, 12P/Pons-Brooks, now aka "Mother of Dragons" will also be visible overhead. Literally the mother of the Draconids which occurs every October starting around the 8th of the month. We recently entered the year of the dragon.

One can interpret Apep as a comet which in some events did bring chaos OR the double "8" as in 88mph, we're going back to the future! But, in these times it may be we're on the express train to chaos and nothing will change that until something really big, divine happens or it all just fades away and we enter a new realm.

Stranger things happen and will get stranger from April 19 to May 1st. Beware!

Over in the broken bridge dept. the terrorism/sabotage angle is also coming to the fore. Various trope across the Interwebs...

For example, Lara Logan is reporting that her sources believe that this was an “absolutely brilliant strategic attack”...

Multiple 'intel' sources: Baltimore bridge collapse was an “absolutely brilliant strategic attack” on US critical infrastructure – most likely cyber – & our intel agencies know it. Make no mistake: this was an extraordinary attack in terms of planning, timing & execution....

They have figured out how to bring us down. As long as you stay away from the teeth of the US military, you can pick the US apart. We are arrogant and ignorant – lethal combination...

The footage shows the cargo ship never got in the approach lane in the channel. You have to be in the channel before you get into that turn. Location was precise/deliberate: chose a bend in the river where you have to slow down and commit yourself – once you are committed in that area there is not enough room to maneuver...

Should have had a harbor pilot to pilot the boat. You are not supposed to traverse any obstacles without the harbor pilot...

They chose a full moon so they would have maximum tidal shift – rise and fall. Brisk flow in that river on a normal day & have had a lot of rain recently so water was already moving along at a good pace...

All these factors when you look at it – this is how you teach people how to do this type of attack and there are so few people left in the system who know this.

There's also the "bad shit sometimes happens" factor, especially at sea.

Symbols crashing everywhere. The seven-pointed star of the Dali's operator, Maesrk, and Babalon for instance. Babalon (also known as the Scarlet Woman, Great Mother or Mother of Abominations) is a goddess found in the occult system of Thelema, which was established in 1904 with the writing of The Book of the Law by English author, intel spy and occultist Aleister Crowley. Also, yesterday was the 27th anniversary of the discovery of the Heaven's Gate suicides.

March 28, 1774: The British Parliament passed the Coercive Acts to punish Massachusetts Bay Colony for rebellion against the British government - namely, the Boston Tea Party.

Unfortunately for England and King George III, the plan backfired as Burke had suggested. Instead, the colonies became more united through their common hatred of the British, referring to the new acts as the “Intolerable Acts.” After years of acts designed to control the colonists who craved liberty and sovereignty, the Intolerable Acts continued to build the colonists’ fervor and eventually led to the “shot heard round the world.”...

The Navy is also sending another 400-ton lift capacity barge, expected to arrive next week, according to a Navy release.

Cheseapeake is owned by Donjon Marine Company, Inc., and was built in 1972, according to the company’s website.

When built in 1972, Chesapeake was originally called SUN 800.

It is its history as SUN 800 that makes the crane infamous. SUN 800 was built to assist in the construction of the Hughes Glomar Explorer, a deep-sea drill-ship platform, according to an article from Engineering News-Record. The ship was built by the CIA to recover the 3,000-ton Soviet Golf II ballistic missile submarine K-129, which sunk in 1968, called Project Azorian, according to USNI News.

The cover for the operations was that billionaire Howard Hughes funded the crane to use it to mine the seafloor for manganese nodules, according to a 2010 piece in Proceedings.

By using SUN 800, the CIA was able to recover the bodies of 70 Soviet crewmembers and parts of the submarine, the Engineering News-Record reported. The CIA returned to the site of the submarine wreckage in 1975 under Project Matador, according to Proceedings.

Hughes Glomar Explorer was sold for scrap in 2015, USNI News reported.

Following its original mission, the Sun 800 was rechristented the Penn 800. It was renamed Penn 1,000 after an upgrade following damage, according to a historical account of Sunship, the company that built the crane. When it transferred to Donjon, it was renamed Chesapeake.

Russia’s Project 22800–class guided-missile patrol combatants are known as the Karakurt class, which translates to Black Widow spider in English.

These warships exemplify recent Russian naval attempts to maximize missile firepower on a compact and relatively simple hull. Based on a design by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau in St. Petersburg, the class incorporates stealth characteristics and seaworthiness. Although only a handful of the new patrol combatants—also classed as corvettes—have so far entered service, many more are planned. Units are being built at multiple shipyards across Russia and in occupied Crimea.

March 30, 1956: "This Tartar woman is for me and my blood says take her!" John Wayne's infamous (and reportedly deadly) film THE CONQUEROR opened at the Criterion in NYC.

The Red hair beauty aka The Brooklyn Bombshell, Susan Hayward (1917-1975) died of  brain cancer, allegedly the result of being exposed to dangerous radioactive toxins on location in Utah while making The Conqueror (1956). All the leads from John Wayne, Agnes Moorehead, John Hoyt, Pedro Armendáriz, Hayward and director Dick Powell died of cancer. The case is still a scandal.

Many over the decades have argued that was one of the worst casting decisions ever for John Wayne. However, after Wayne had read the script he insisted that it be made. Director Powell tried to convince Wayne that he shouldn’t make it. But no one could say no to John Wayne. Not back then and not once he'd set his mind to a role.

They really went all out to market this movie including Hollywood bread.

But, what is more interesting and almost downright horrifying is the filming location of the production. Around the same time that Wayne was falling in love with the role of Khan, six hours away in the Nevada dessert an atomic bomb exploded. Eleven to be exact.

The worst affected area, however, was right next door. The wind carried the nuclear fallout from those explosions east and much of it accumulated in St. George, Utah, and the surrounding dessert.

The irony, is today St. George, Utah is an upper class retirement community (many closed gated assisted living suburbs) and has one of the best medical caring facilities in the country. I been there several times as it's a short drive from Vegas and near Zion National Park. My dad was thinking of buying a place here to retire, but after some research on property formerly owned by Howard Hughes he decided against it.

The cast, the crew, and the producers knew about the nuclear tests and were worried about the potential dangers from radiation. Wayne brought a Geiger counter to the set to help. It made so much noise, however, that, according to some accounts, Wayne thought the Geiger counter must have been broken.

Several members of production, including Wayne, brought family members to the set during production. All told, production took several months to complete but not before Mr. Hughes had 60 tons of radioactive Utah sand sent back to Los Angeles to shoot some additional scenes on Hollywood sets. He wanted the sand (texture & color) to match.

All of this could have been avoided and, yet again, it almost was. Howard Hughes was concerned about the radiation. So he asked officials at the AEC if there was any reason to worry. The response Hughes received was identical to the one that all American’s received: There is no need to worry.

"The Conqueror" producer Howard Hughes has called his decision to film in St. George the worst decision of his life.

The film is sometimes called "An RKO Radioactive Picture". It was filmed near an active nuclear test site in Utah, where 11 tests had reportedly been carried out in the year before the production landed there. The set was contaminated by nuclear fallout, but the Atomic Energy Commission assured Howard Hughes and the local population that the area was completely safe. Photographs exist of John Wayne holding a Geiger counter that reportedly made so much noise that he thought it was broken. After location shooting, Hughes had tons of contaminated soil transported back to Hollywood in order to match interior shooting done there. Over the next 30 years, 91 of the 220 cast and crew members developed cancer.

People Magazine researched the cast and crew’s health for an article and found that 46 died, including John Wayne, Susan Hayward, Pedro Armendáriz (who shot himself soon after learning he had terminal cancer), Agnes Moorehead, John Hoyt, and director Dick Powell. Lee Van Cleef had throat cancer, but died of a heart attack. The count did not include several hundred local Native Americans who played extras, or relatives of the cast and crew who visited the set, including John Wayne's son Michael Wayne.

A "People" article quoted the reaction of a scientist from the Pentagon's Defense Nuclear Agency to the news, "Please, God, don't let us have killed John Wayne". As of June 2011, the article is available in its archive online.

It has however been suggested that many of the cast and crew died of cancer as a result of smoking. John Wayne had smoked 3-5 packs of cigarettes a day since the early 1930s, and many of the other actors and crew members were also heavy smokers.

Ivan T. Sanderson's The Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained and their publication "Pursuit". Sanderson founded the Ivan T. Sanderson Foundation in August 1965 on his New Jersey property, which became the Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained (SITU) in 1967. SITU was a non-profit organization that investigated claims of strange phenomena ignored by mainstream science.

Ivan Terence Sanderson (1911-1973; brain cancer) was a British biologist/cryptozoologist/UFOlogist and writer born in Edinburgh, Scotland, who became a naturalized citizen of the United States. Sanderson wrote on nature and travel, and was a frequent guest on television talk shows and variety shows of the 1950s and '60s, displaying and discussing exotic animals.

As a teenager he became famous claiming to have seen an "olitiau" (a large cryptid bat) after being attacked by a creature he described as "the Granddaddy of all bats". During World War II, Sanderson worked for British Naval Intelligence, in charge of counter-espionage against the Germans in the Caribbean. In 1968, Sanderson introduced the concept of the "vile vortex". Vile vortices are claimed to be "anomalic regions" regularly distributed on Earth where disproportionately many strange phenomena occur, such as disappearances, UFO sightings, or poltergeist activity.

SITU began publishing Pursuit with Issue No.1 (May, 1967) and the title simply as “Newsletter.” However, with Newsletter No. 3, the title “Pursuit” was added, and this remained the title.

Quote:THE STORY BEHIND THE COVER

We kept warning and warning them, but people just laughed the way they always do or did, rather...

I'd first gotten interested in Flying Saucers back in the fifties when people started thinking there was something to these constantly recurring reports of strange things hurtling through the sky. If this had been a thousand years earlier, we'd all have been on our knees, no doubt, seeing in these strange shapes warnings of the end of the Earth. But, a thousand years later, we were a more sophisticated people. We didn't have the sense to be afraid of what we couldn't understand. When news came through that a cloud (that's what the reports called it, "a cloud") of shapes in the sky had appeared over Lhasa and that devout Tibetans and Chinese Communist officials were milling around the temples in the thousands, animosities forgotten, celebrating the coming of the men from something they called Shambala, we felt superior over these people who weren't as advanced as us.

And then the next day Ovington Proving Grounds went off the air. And then the state of Texas.

The gentlemen who represented Texas in Congress were quick to demand a bipartisan investigation.

A forcefield seemed to have been thrown around the state. No news was coming out of Texas. No radio stations seemed to be working. No planes were able to cross Texas. Reporters who had flown as far as the Texan border and then found themselves unable to proceed a step further, reported seeing people walking about, on the other side, with an obviously dazed look.

The day before Texas had gone off the air, a commentator in Dallas had chortled over the latest Flying Saucer story. A giant Flying Saucer had been seen heading towards Dallas that morning a fantastic round thing, large enough to cover a small village according to one report and the commentator, paying his respects to what he termed the silly season, had quoted the warning of a local Saucer group that the long anticipated Invasion might be on.

The next day, we in New York began to watch for Their coming. We had warned people, just as the group in Texas had done, that there was no assurance that the coming of the Saucers meant the Millenium was near, and we had attacked the emotional blackmailers who had started cults based upon alleged contacts with the "men" piloting the Saucers. We felt that even if these visits had taken place, they could be interpreted as "softening-up" steps, and nothing more. They came, finally, the morning of the sixth day after Texas had gone off the air.

I was down at the Battery, watching, as the huge Mother Ship landed in the Bay-a shimmering forcefield quickly thrown around it while, from inside the ship, more than a doren smaller scouts quickly emerged and were soon hovering over New York.

There was pandemonium where I was, of course. Men and women were kneeling in the streets. A wild-eyed man near me was shouting about the end of the world. But I could only feel numb. The end of the world that we had known was undoubtedly near. The saucer that was hovering closer and closer above our heads heralded a strange Tomorrow......

March 29/30, 1974: The Sugarland Express, the first theatrical film by rising director Steve Spielberg, is released. Spielberg shot the prison break where it actually took place: the Jester State Prison, a pre-release facility in Sugar Land, Texas.

Panavision chose this movie for the launch of Panaflex, a compact camera that enabled Steven Spielberg to shoot complex shots inside a patrol car. The hijacked Texas Department of Public Safety patrol car featured in the film is a 1973 Dodge Polara, which Steven Spielberg bought himself after filming, bullet holes and all.

Based on the events of May 1969 when fugitives Robert and Ila Fae Dent kidnapped Texas DPS trooper Kenneth Crone, commandeered his car and led police and other law enforcement officials on a chase from outside Port Arthur, through Houston, up to Navasota and on to Wheelock, where Ila Fae Dent's mother lived. At one point a motorcade of more than 150 police cars and reporters joined the pursuit. FBI agent Bob Wiatt (who retired in 2004) confronted them at the mother's home and was forced to shoot Robert Dent, who was armed, in the neck, killing him. Wiatt wrestled Ila Fae to the ground and handcuffed her.

Quote:The egg dance was a traditional Easter game involving the laying down of eggs on the ground and dancing among them whilst trying to break as few as possible. Another variation (depicted in many of the images featured here) involved tipping an egg from a bowl, and then trying to flip the bowl over on top of it, all with only using one's feet and staying within a chalk circle drawn on the ground. Although, as shown in many of its depictions in art, the pastime is associated with peasant villages of the 16th and 17th century, one of the earliest references to egg-dancing relates to the marriage of Margaret of Austria and Philibert of Savoy on Easter Monday in 1498. The event was described in an 1895 issue of American Magazine:

Then the great egg dance, the special dance of the season, began. A hundred eggs were scattered over a level space covered with sand, and a young couple, taking hands, began the dance. If they finished without breaking an egg they were betrothed, and not even an obdurate parent could oppose the marriage.

After three couples had failed, midst the laughter and shouts of derision of the on-lookers, Philibert of Savoy, bending on his knee before Marguerite, begged her consent to try the dance with him. The admiring crowd of retainers shouted in approval, "Savoy and Austria!" When the dance was ended and no eggs were broken the enthusiasm was unbounded.

In the 1870s, Capitol Hill had become a popular spot for children to roll eggs - and themselves - down the hill on Easter Monday. As the event grew more popular, the toll on the grounds was noticeable. In 1876, Congress passed a law forbidding the Capitol grounds to be used as a children's playground. In 1878, President Rutherford B. Hayes issued an order that if any children should come to the White House to roll their Easter eggs, they would be allowed to do so. The tradition has been carried on since, and has grown into the major event.

Quote:So, yes, Rogan is huge. But now we can compare his podcast following to that of his other platforms. His Spotify following is still smaller than his subscribers on YouTube, which come in at 16.4 million, and his personal Instagram followers, which are at 18.9 million. But it’s worth noting that Rogan accumulated these Spotify followers over just four years – his show wasn’t on the platform until he signed an exclusive deal in 2020.

Now, there are caveats to this figure. Podcasters’ audiences span platforms. These days, Rogan is back on YouTube and Apple Podcasts, as is Alex Cooper of Call Her Daddy , and video clips from podcasts like New Heights travel far and wide on the internet. Plus, not all followers listen to every episode. Some might never tune in.

But that said, following a podcast is a specific action taken by listeners to show just how much interest they have in hearing content from these creators.

“This number represents the number of users who have decided to ‘follow’ a show on Spotify — it doesn't represent a show’s total audience or the performance of an episode,” Spotify said in a comment. “The early feedback from both creators and users has been encouraging. We have no further details to share at this time.”

1950: Portly short character actor Eugene Pallette (July 8, 1889 – Sept 3, 1954) denies he built a "ranch fortress" in Oregon to escape an atomic war.

In 1946, convinced that there was going to be a "world blow-up" by atomic bombs, the hawkish Pallette received considerable publicity when he set up a "mountain fortress" on a 3,500-acre ranch near Imnaha, Oregon, as a hideaway from universal catastrophe. The "fortress" reportedly was stocked with a sizable herd of prize cattle, enormous supplies of food, and had its own canning plant and lumber mill. When the "blow-up" he anticipated failed to materialize after two years, he began disposing of the Oregon ranch and returned to Los Angeles and his movie colony friends. He never appeared in another movie, again.

One summer we decided to go explore remote northeastern Oregon and do some camping with my kids. We drove to Imnaha, Oregon on our way to Hells Canyon at the Snake River. This place is eXtreme as in you better be prepared for life in the remote high desert, though very scenic landscapes. My kids called it "the dead zone" because no WiFi, no cell service. LOL. The very few people we did meet were friendly and of course absolutely knew we were from a city suburbia. Best keep an eye on your kids out here...Nobody will ever find you out here if you wanted to disappear we were told by the few townsfolk.

The history of the Mother Church was never set down in any writing in the past. When the founder, Rev. Julia Forrest, passed away, her family burnt her personal and church papers. In 1978-79 Rev. Laura Smith, Pastor of the Second Spiritual Science Church of Rochester, NY,, attempted to write a history but Rev. Glenn Argoe (who succeeded Rev. Forrest) and the senior ministers at the time, refused to cooperate with Rev. Smith and give her any information. When Rev. Lillian Corbin (who succeeded Rev. Argoe) passed, the persons who were living in her house at that time destroyed the existing church records that were stored there.

Final words...

"Last year, I had a life-changing experience at 90 years old. I went to space, after decades of playing an iconic science-fiction character who was exploring the universe. I thought I would experience a deep connection with the immensity around us, a deep call for endless exploration.

I was absolutely wrong. The strongest feeling, that dominated everything else by far, was the deepest grief that I had ever experienced.

I understood, in the clearest possible way, that we were living on a tiny oasis of life, surrounded by an immensity of death. I didn’t see infinite possibilities of worlds to explore, of adventures to have, or living creatures to connect with. I saw the deepest darkness I could have ever imagined, contrasting so starkly with the welcoming warmth of our nurturing home planet.

“This was an immensely powerful awakening for me. It filled me with sadness. I realized that we had spent decades, if not centuries, being obsessed with looking away, with looking outside. I did my share in popularizing the idea that space was the final frontier. But I had to get to space to understand that Earth is and will stay our only home. And that we have been ravaging it, relentlessly, making it uninhabitable."

Influenza Report

Quote:Countering a toned-down alert from the Centers for Disease Control over a new “bird flu” case, survivalists who have long seen the H5N1 virus as more threatening than COVID-19 this week stepped up their warnings about it.

“This is a real threat,” a national prepper and survivalist organization warned on its app.

“This is a warning to prepare for a potentially severe pandemic and collapse,” added the statement on the “Collapse Survivor App” recently featured in Secrets and produced by the founder of Fortitude Ranch, a chain of survivalist resort camps.

The administration on Monday reported in an alert that a Texas dairy worker was struck by the bird flu, which actually spreads in birds and mammals.

“This infection does not change the H5N1 bird flu human health risk assessment for the U.S. general public, which CDC considers to be low,” the CDC said.

But Drew Miller, the Fortitude founder, said the CDC was being too dismissive. A former government intelligence officer, retired Air Force colonel, and Harvard Ph.D. graduate, Miller told Secrets, “The Center For Disease Control is endangering Americans with false assurances that H5N1 is ‘low risk.’ The opposite is true: H5N1 is a clear, growing risk of a pandemic that could kill billions.”

He and others who help the public prepare for disasters have long warned about the threat of the virus once it reaches human-to-human spread levels.

“The recent human case in the U.S. is not from human-to-human transmission of H5N1, but the risks of this are clearly rising,” Miller said. “H5N1, which historically has been about 60% lethal to humans, had a major mutation last year, enabling it to spread in many mammal populations around the world.”

He added in a memo to members, “We cannot know when human-to-human transmissible H5N1 pandemic will happen, but to say it is low risk is wrong. An H5N1 pandemic is coming. It could start tomorrow, or a few more years from now. The CDC must stop reassuring people that H5N1 is low risk; it is a looming huge disaster that will kill billions if we are not prepared for it. The CDC should be publishing the message the Collapse Survivor App just released: H5N1 is a huge risk, and you need to be prepared for a bad pandemic and collapse.”

Survivalists warn about H5N1 ‘bird flu’ spread: ‘Threat is real’

Quote:What we know about H5N1 bird flu in cows — and the risk to humans

The discovery of H5N1 bird flu in U.S. cattle — and the news that at least one person in Texas has been infected, apparently through contact with infected cows — has taken scientists who study influenza by surprise.

Cows from 12 dairy herds in five states have tested positive for H5N1. Those states are Texas (seven herds), Kansas (two), Michigan (one), New Mexico (one), and Idaho (one).

...
Is this picture likely to change?

Almost undoubtedly.

“We’re doing science here. And science changes. And when the science changes, then our assessment may change,” said Nirav Shah, principal deputy director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

I thought we were all told for decades that nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.

Excerpt from page 54:
Quote:However, the question remains how many nuclear weapons would be needed to meet U.S. military objectives if deterrence fails (including, for example, counterforce targets and damage limitation objectives). Current numbers appear sufficient to fight one nuclear war while deterring another. No changes in U.S. numbers will be needed before the 2030s as China builds up its arsenal over a decade to its goal of at least 1,500 nuclear weapons by 2035. Nearing 2035, the current objectives for nuclear weapons employment in the event of escalation to a large-scale nuclear war with China and Russia may require higher numbers to cover additional targets. The value of meeting these objectives should be evaluated critically against adversary reactions to new capabilities.

There is no evidence that additional low-yield options (including more prompt options for using low-yield nuclear weapons) would deter Russia from using low-yield nuclear weapons. Instead, managing deterrence of limited nuclear war requires credibly signaling that an adversary will not gain any military or political advantage from using nuclear weapons.

Page 55 first para is a WoW...

Quote:...it is not in any way realistic for the United States to fight two nuclear wars to acceptable outcomes—one large-scale nuclear war would end civilization as we know it. ... Amid or after a major nuclear war with Russia or China, it is highly unlikely that a U.S. president would have any plausible incentive to fight a second large-scale nuclear war. Thus, a scenario where the United States fights one nuclear war and deters another nuclear war is realistically sufficient.

It was a new word to me... Chrisom and there seemed to be a lot of it.
Shocked

Wikipedia:
Chrisom.
'Anciently, a chrisom, or "chrisom-cloth," was the face-cloth, or piece of linen laid over a child's head
during baptism or christening. Originally, the purpose of the chrisom-cloth was to keep the chrism,
a consecrated oil, from accidentally rubbing off.

With time, the word's meaning changed, to that of a white mantle thrown over the whole infant at the
time of baptism. The term has come to refer to a child who died within a month after its baptism—so
called for the chrisom cloth that was used as a shroud for it.

Additionally, in London's bills of mortality, the term chrisom was used to refer to infants who died within
a month after being born...'

Collins Online Dictionary:
1.  Christianity -A white robe put on an infant at baptism and formerly used as a burial shroud
if the infant died soon afterwards
2.  archaic -An infant wearing such a robe
3.  A variant spelling of chrism

Huh Based on the above, some may suggest the word 'suffocation' could be used too.

April 4, 1975: teenage geeks Bill Gates and Paul Allen established Microsoft in Albuquerque, New Mexico. From humble beginnings to global innovation, here's a short story showcasing the roots of a revolution:

Yes, MV DALI. It's still there and likely will be for a while.

There's a few salvage divers working in zero visibility and 3-5 knot currents, with two smaller cranes. Limiting constraint on the cranes is that the steel has to be cut into relatively small sections for the cranes to lift. Salvaged metal just now got a laydown space but there's not a lot of barges on hand to move it away from the site.

DALI is grounded in the riverbed, pinned by about 4,000 tons of steel bridge wreckage on top, and sitting on a natural gas pipe. It's a huge effort and the current chaos is largely a result of captured interests on the procurement side plus lack of common operating picture on the incident command side.

Fact: The US Navy is in charge of the Baltimore Bridge salvage effort.

Fact: The US Navy has more Admirals that warships.

Fact: there is not one Admiral in uniform today who is a salvage master.

Fact: salvage masters were once among the Navy’s most respected officers.

Fact: during the Navy’s biggest crisis in history it made a salvage master it’s top Admiral and gave him 5 stars.

Fact: for practically winning the entire F’n war, Fleet Admiral King was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal.

Fact: King already had TWO Distinguished Service Medals for salvage operations

Opinion: this operation in Baltimore is going to be a painstaking long process costing mega billions of dollars. It will be plagued with bureaucratic nonsense.

Opinion: If the US Navy had not divested all its salvage equipment, subcontracted most of its salvage work to an overseas company, and still promoted experience hardened salvage masters to the rank of Admiral... this bridge could have been cleared in a few weeks.

But today’s Admirals won’t be found on the decks of shipwrecks wearing wrinkled khakis. The hundreds of Admirals in today’s Navy prefer wearing starched Army camouflage to office jobs.

Aside from the Navy, the Army’s in charge of waterways and bridges. Just 5 years ago the Army had salvage cranes and tugboats in Baltimore harbor. Not anymore.

Guess where the Army’s most decorated 5-Star general of WWII came from?

The Army Corps of Engineers!

If this was 1947, the Seabees would already have a replacement temp dock system ready to go while the salvage operation was underway. I'm not sure how we get back to that kind of point in our society.

Quote:The hurricane season is still nearly two months away but Dr. Phil Klotzbach and his research team at Colorado State University released their forecast for the 2024 hurricane season today.

Unfortunately, it's likely to be a very active season. The forecast calls for 23 named storms, 11 of those becoming hurricanes and 5 of those becoming major hurricanes (category 3 or higher). In an average year, we expect 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes.

IMPORTANT - None of these preseason forecasts CANNOT tell you where any storm will go

Dr. Klotzbach indicates record warm tropical and eastern subtropical Atlantic water temperatures as the primary factor for a busy season. Additionally, El Nino is likely transition to La Nina by the peak of hurricane season.  In years with La Nina, the wind shear is typically lighter. When wind shear is lighter, there is generally an increase in hurricane activity.

Remember, whether there are 5 or 25 named storms, it only takes one hitting us to make it a bad year. That's why it's important to prepare every year!

Earthquakes in the eastern U.S. are felt over a MUCH bigger area than the West Coast due to older rocks. They were subject to extreme pressures and temperatures and they're denser and so shaking travels much farther.

The DHS EAS is called the National Public Warning System, aka Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS), aka Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA, formerly known as the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS). I see reports saying some folks didn't get an earthquake phone alert. If that is true, then it's not fit for its purpose. Congress spends big $$$ on this and obviously it's supposed to work flawlessly. The Gov just updated FCC EAS rules in 2022 for radio and TV - PDF. It's an engineering headache. The FCC has changed the EAS rules dozens of times since 9/11 and it would be nice if it actually worked to warn the public in congested urban areas and hi-rise buildings as to an earthquake and either evacuate or shelter in place. And this same gov wants to hand over this digital mess to AI. LOL, good luck!

It's easy to forget how relatively recently it was that Florida (and Texas) grew into very high-population states. Check this Electoral College map from 1948: FL had 8 EVs! NY had 47, PA had 35, OH 25, MI 19. Iowa had 10! Compare to the 2024 map.

Why did this happen? A lot of reasons.
1. "Pent up demand" - Economist term that refers to a situation where demand for a service or product is unusually strong.

2. Cheap land and labor

3. Low taxes & regulations

4. New infrastructure

5. Defense & technology

6. Vacationers & Retirees

7. Migrant Farm workers

8. Oil

9. Climate & comfort.

Hotel/motel & residential air conditioning came to the sun belt. While air conditioning of public buildings in the north began to take root in the late 1920s and 1930s, it was not until post WWII that it became more commonplace in the south. Roughly 70% of my relatives now live in Florida.

April 4, 1924: British radio makes its first broadcast intended for schools, a music appreciation talk by a professor, Walford Davies. The program is a precursor to BBC School Radio, which supplements the primary school curriculum with lessons and entertainment.

Ha, Lord Pickles...

Quote:Katharine Viner, the Guardian’s editor-in-chief, said: “Hella was an incredible force and an inspiration. She had unrivalled contacts and immense knowledge about world affairs and was always steely in her determination to find out the facts.

Pick was born in Vienna in 1927, and spent her early childhood in what she described as a “very conventional middle-class environment”. But after the Nazis annexed Austria in 1938, and attacks on Jews rose sharply, her mother decided to put her 11-year-old daughter on a Kindertransport train for the UK.

Simon Tisdall, another former foreign editor of the Guardian, said: “Hella was a force to be reckoned with. Fiercely intelligent, passionate about all she did, incredibly well connected in the exclusive world of international diplomacy – and ever courageous in navigating a male-dominated journalistic profession that feared powerful women.

“Well into her 90s she was writing elegant long-form pieces for Prospect magazine, including an article drawing sobering parallels between the war she fled as a Kindertransport child in 1939 and the rise of Putin. She was one of a kind.”

Describing her as a “trailblazer for a generation”, he wrote: “Pick is testament to the necessity of having a broad intellectual hinterland and an open mind, the value of cultivating sources and finding things out. There is no better manifesto against the current clickbait culture and narcissistic social media obsession.”

“She was probably the oldest working journalist in the UK, and was deeply engaged with the world, even as she was leaving it. The days before her death, weak and in hospital, she still wanted to talk about her horror at the situation in Gaza and her fear for Ukraine’s future, with Europe and America distracted and divided.

Hella Pick, pioneering Guardian journalist, dies aged 96

Gordon-Michael Scallion was a futurist, spiritualist, and self-proclaimed "prophet" who had an "awakening" after losing his ability speak and becoming restricted to a hospital bed. During that time, he had a vision of a lady who told him apocalyptic earthquakes and astronomical events would reshape the earth. After he healed from his strange condition, he made this map:

Quote:Offered here is Scallion’s Future Map of North America, which “illustrates the way I see North America by 2012, with many of the more significant changes occurring by 2002.” The map is a “before and after” image, the base a relief map of North America and part of Latin America with national, state and provincial boundaries shown in white. Vast areas are overprinted in blue, reflecting Scallion’s prophecy that by 2012 much of the region would be inundated following “three separate magnetic pole shifts… each comprised of a six to eight degree westerly shift.” Surrounding the map are long blocks of text summarizing Scallion’s predictions of the geophysical, climactic and demographic consequences of these successive shifts.

This parade of cataclysms will cause mass migrations, with much of the population ending up concentrated in huge “survival camps”. Making things worse, these survivors will be afflicted by “new plagues… as the body’s electrical system becomes imbalanced by changes in the Earth’s magnetic field and electromagnetic pollution”. Further, “infrasonic waves” from shifting tectonic plates will leave humans “vulnerable to pronounced mood swings, depression and even something akin to possession”. On the other hand, there’s also some really good news, at least for those who’ve had it with the patriarchy: The magnetic pole shifts will (somehow) “cause the moon to orbit closer to the Earth. This will cause a move towards a lunar society with more feminine than masculine overtones. As a result, both men and women will experience increases in intuitive capabilities.”

On the off chance things don’t work out as expected (hoped?), Scallion gives himself an out: “Predictions are given as probabilities. Even at this time, consciousness can alter an event, modify changes in a particular area, or at the very least, help prepare for what is to come.” It’s worth noting that similar hedging appears on his 1992 Future Map of the United States, which predicted that the magnetic pole shifts and attendant cataclysms would occur in 1993-95. It’s all reminiscent of the Millerites’ recalculation of the Second Coming of Christ after the “Great Disappointment” of 1844.

McCarthy was a trustee for the Santa Fe Institute (SFI), a multidisciplinary research center devoted to the study of complex adaptive systems. Unlike most members of the SFI, McCarthy did not have a scientific background. There was another person of interest who had deep involvement with SFI concerning genetics...Jeffrey Epstein. The name that won't die.

I bet you would be even more surprised to know that I grew up with White and Colored water fountains. It was so normal and accepted that it was foreign to us, and confusing, why anyone would think there was anything wrong with it.

Nobody was offended by it. Not the coloreds or the whites. We learned by our mistakes. And we made a Hell of a lot of them.
