And what will be the sign when these things are about to take place? ” 8 Then He said, “Watch out that you are not deceived.k For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He, and, ‘The time is near.’ Don’t follow them. 9 When you hear of wars and rebellions,o don’t be alarmed. Indeed, these things must take place first, but the end won’t come right away.” 10 Then He told them: “Nation will be raised up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.11 There will be violent earthquakes, and famines and plagues in various places, and there will be terrifying sights and great signs from heaven.s 12 But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you. They will hand you over to the •synagogues and prisons,w and you will be brought before kings and governors because of My name. 13 It will lead to an opportunity for you to witness. 14 Therefore make up your minds not to prepare your defense ahead of time,ab 15 for I will give you such words,ad and a wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.16 You will even be betrayed by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends. The Destruction of Jerusalem 20 “When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies,al then recognize that its desolation has come near. 21Then those in Judea must flee to the mountains! Those inside the city must leave it, and those who are in the country must not enter it, 22 because these are days of vengeance to fulfill all the things that are written. 23 Woe to pregnant women and nursing mothers in those days, for there will be great distress in the lands and wrath against this people. 24 They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive into all the nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. The Coming of the Son of Man 25 “Then there will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars;ax and there will be anguish on the earth among nations bewildered by the roaring sea and waves. 26 People will faint from fear and expectation of the things that are coming on the world, because the celestial powers will be shaken. 27 Then they will see the •Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 But when these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your •redemption is near! ” RE: The World Needs President Trump Now More Than Ever | Newsweek - Ninurta - 10-26-2023 (10-26-2023, 01:42 PM)ANNEE Wrote: But it's not really from Newsweek. It's an Op-Ed from Monica Crowley https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monica_Crowley I was surprised that Newsweek would allow it to be printed in their rag too, but wonders never cease. Monica Crowley is one I would consider to be leftward, right up there with Kinzinger and Liz Cheney, but leftward folks consider her a right winger. I reckon it's all a matter of perspective. Objectivity is extremely rare in opinion pieces, and news in general these days - no news service seems to be able to resist the temptation to inject opinion and muddy fact with it, an attempt to impart "spin" to every news tale told. Almost all of the major news outlets, and many of the minor ones, approach shilling out pure opinion rather than objective news. It seems that everyone tries to skew "fact" to fit their fantasies of what the world is or ought to be, and Ms. Crowley, being a Fox-trained shill, is no different. . And vice-versa. I know I am "Socially liberal" in the classic sense of "liberal" associated with "liberty". I just don't care what anyone else does if it's not impacting me or mine. I do me, they can do them. And I'm also financially conservative. Probably my Scottish genes kicking in hard. Money is nice, but if I spend it, then I don't have it, and that doesn't make a lot of sense to me to live life like that. So at least as regards myself, you're assessment is probably right on the money. I don't like Biden because he seems entirely unfit for the job, and it appears to me that other folks are steering while he's asleep at the wheel... and they're steering us towards a looming cliff. I'm not too wild about Trump, either. Sure, he got stuff done, but those "mean tweets" just gave folks an excuse to try and hamper him at every turn, to the point that he was spending more time trying to go over the top with them than he could spend governing. As far as the tweet themselves go, I just took them to be representative of yet another useless internet war, a waste of time that would have been more productively spent actually DOING stuff rather than pissing and moaning about it. After the last election, he should have bowed out of running political races and jus sat back on his laurels as a Kingmaker for the Republicans, their Elder Statesman. But no, he just had to make another run at the limelight, and that has probably prevented some of the more capable Republicans from even trying to run this cycle, figuring it's a waste of time and resources t=for them to even try. So now they have a field of useful idiots like Chris Christy, Mike Pence, Vivek Ravaswany, and Nikki Haley. I wouldn't vote for any of those for local Dog Catcher, much less "Leader of the Free World", whatever meaning that phrase even has left after the Biden debacle. . I can watch the world burn from the comfort of my easy chair rather than actively pour gas on it by voting for a Head Idiot to destroy it. I mean, if it's going to sink anyhow, it really doesn't need my vote to drill another hole in the hull. . The Mike Johnson, former senior attorney and spokesperson for the Alliance Defending Freedom, an extremist religious rights group dedicated to dismantling LGBTQ+ freedoms and outlawing abortion that has been designated a hate group by the SPLC and is arguably the most extreme anti-LGBT legal organization in the United States? The Mike Johnson who as recently in a speech this April downplayed the concept of the separation of church and state? Like everyone else on this godforsaken ball of wet rock, we have our opinions, and those are just colored by the different approaches we take to life. It's not a matter of "right or wrong" or "left or right", is just two different tangents to approach the same problems. Honestly, I wouldn't have the job with the situation the world is in at the moment. I'd make Attila the Hun and his hordes look like a Girl Scout troop, and that wouldn't be good for any of us in the short run. The first step to wisdom and integrity is knowing your limitations. I know my way of thinking is not the right or complete answer, so I ain't even gonna try! . Maybe. I've never heard of him before, which just means he was not bright enough on my radar or impactful enough on me or mine out here in the sticks to research him. To me he's a nothing and a nobody, and what he rants against doesn't mean much, as it appears to have not had much of an impact on anyone, or policy. If he's all that you say, he still won't have much impact, even as speaker, because he'll get universally ignored or actively worked against. In short, if he's all that, then he'll be just as ineffective going forward and he has been getting to where he is. Quote:The Mike Johnson, former senior attorney and spokesperson for the Alliance Defending Freedom, an extremist religious rights group dedicated to dismantling LGBTQ+ freedoms and outlawing abortion that has been designated a hate group by the SPLC and is arguably the most extreme anti-LGBT legal organization in the United States? See, there's where they go off the rails. History proves to us that religion and law do not mix well - just look at the Catholic Inquisition or modern day shari'a law among the Muslims. Didn't work for the Catholics, ain't working for the Muslims, and won't work for the Christians. It's a dead horse before the rider even gets on. Quote:The Mike Johnson who was one of the chief architects of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election? Seems like if he'd held that position, I'd have heard of him. I was pretty keen on invalidating the last elections and forcing new ones after I saw what I saw. Still never heard of him during all that time - maybe I was yelling to loudly to hear him whispering. Quote:The Mike Johnson who argued the case for building the (Noah’s) Ark Encounter Project that subsequently received $18 million in tax incentives. I've never heard of that project, but it seems true to form. That's what politicians these days - both Democrat and Republican - do best. They steal money out of the public coffers for their pet private projects. Quote:Maybe a “nobody” to you but the last thing this country needs is another extremist in a position of power. Which is why I won't be throwing my hat into the ring. I'm the last of the last that the world needs at the moment. .But this Johnson character, I really don't expect great things from him, neither "good" no "bad" from either my perspective or yours. if he's all that extreme, he'll get pushed and pounded by the Democrat major minority into ineffectual oblivion. He might be the next one in the Star Chamber docks, right after Trump. .
