A curious turn of events.
Most web sites are not in Canada, nor are they under Canadian jurisdiction. How does Canada propose to seize jurisdiction from other countries that have the websites located within them?
This reminds me of the California law requiring all social media websites world-wide to report their "disinformation" mitigation efforts to California. Since California does not have jurisdiction over most web sites, it's an empty law.
Ditto for New Zealand. NZ has sent out takedown notices and cease and desist letters to other web sites, in other jurisdictions. Again, empty threats, empty laws, since NZ does not hold jurisdiction over the sites they've sent ultimatums to.
They can pass whatever laws they like, but their problems come in when they try to enforce their laws beyond their jurisdictional borders.
The only thing they can do, really, is set up a CCP-style "Great Firewall", and police things within their own jurisdictions, and block external things from entering their jurisdictions. Iran does that, too. Once a nation does that, it tips off it's own citizenry to it's authoritarian and despotic tendencies.
Pobrecitos. They are just having delusions of adequacy.
