..............He claimed to have inside information that the U.S. was in contact with something originating from a worldline slightly ahead of ours, with slightly different outcomes.

He would say... most people assume reality is singular because it’s easier that way.

Sounds like my theory about there being another Earth on the opposite side of the sun to our one. Nobody could understand this because we Earthbound folk cannot get far enough out into space to see around the Sun.

Perhaps "things" have been exchanged between the two Earths by leaving something in a fixed space relative to our trajectories for 6 months for collection by the twin.

Maybe the Moon has been a "shuttle", hopping between the two over the Aeons by using understanding of Astrophysics and some rather interesting navigation.

In a world of equals and opposites, hidden things ccould be found beyond human vision perhaps.

My take on that "LOOKING GLASS" business was that it was/is a model (simulation) of reality, but with incredible amounts of data and computing power to draw upon.  Essentially my idea was that it could make reasonable predictions of at least the near future, just based on how events in various situations had progressed in the past.  Even just that capability would be a serious advantage for a nation-state.

The outcomes of calculations are perhaps nothing more than possibilities, and any following interaction with the concluded data shifts those possibilities and nothing can change, and a new possibility is immediately created. Like a Particle and a Wave, the particle is the data and the wave is it's predicted outcome. The moment the wave is interacted with the whole thing collapses back to a particle, back to square one automatically without the chance to actually use or change anything.
