Supposedly the State Dept is discouraging U.S. diplomats from "publicly using phrases that would urge calm" such as "ceasefire" and "end to bloodshed" because apparently this might make it erroneously seem as if they want to de-escalate things.

That is an interesting story. First, it's from HuffPo, but more importantly, the by-line is "Akbar Shahid Ahmed". Akbar Shahid Ahmed doesn't sound like a name to me, it sounds like a title. It means "the great martyr Ahmed".
